Interesting. A successor of the Yak-9D/DD in many ways? Designed for comfortable long distance escort flights.

In case anyone is curious - that is just over 8 seconds of ammunition.

That will be difficult when all the NATO fighters are faster.

NATO as such played no part in the Korean war. It was the United Nations Command (UNC) that fought in support of South Korea.

The La-11 is significantly faster than the F-51D. In terms of single seat ground attack fighters it is also faster than the AD-4 and the AU-1 (if it gets added as a variant if the F4U at some point).

The F-4U-4 and the Sea Fury are faster than the La-11.

The La-11 will have a higher thrust-to-weight ratio than either of these.

The La-11 will also be lighter weight overall and have a lower wing loading than the F-4U, but will have a significantly worse climb rate.

So in spite of the additional fuel tanks, armour, and equipment (compared to the La-9), the La-11 will probably be able to give a decent fight (even if it is at a speed disadvantage). I suspect that, if we get the Sea Fury, it will have an edge though (higher roll rate, low wing loading, exceptional speed).

OOPS  I meant UN.

I'm seeing a max speed for the La 11 of 419 mph, slower than the Mustang.

A whole new genre from those home cockpit builders!!

It's a surprise, didn't expect they would make La-11,it wasn't on the list when Korea was announced.

Anyone have some good performance specs for the La-11?

I'm wondering if it's a low-medium altitude beast, like the La-5 and all of it's variants; or if it's tuned for higher altitude.

Hey! It's a La-9 with a long range modification. One gun less and more fuel.

Still carries the same radial engine as ASh-82 and similar performance to La-5FN / La-7 when unloaded. All of this from memory so take it with a pinch of salt. :)

It seems to be a low-medium altitude design.

I haven't had time to read up on it properly. Aerodynamic refinements (e.g. new airfoil) should mean it is slightly faster than the La-7, but it should also have a higher wing loading and lower climb rate when fully loaded.

I think it will be very interesting to see what it is like when more than half of the fuel is gone. It still had more fittings and armour than the La-9 (coming in at 5% more) so the performance should still be less than the La-9, but it should still be improved compared to when loaded with fuel for a long range escort mission.

I really like the sharp-edged wings! Kinda reminds me of a Spitfire CW

So I'm wondering because of the way the guns are split up on the ammo counters; is there one trigger for one gun, and a second trigger for the other two guns?
