The short storyline of Chapter 4!
----

The Isle of Wight fictional battles
Chapter 4 - The Battle of Bembridge, Isle of Wight - Summer '42 (WWII)

Period: Summer 1942, with the British mostly in North Africa and Germans looking to cross the Channel.

Location: Bembridge, a quiet southeastern town flanked by cliffs and marshland, was strategically chosen. Its small harbour and proximity to Portsmouth made it a crucial point for securing supply lines. The operation fell to the experienced 21st Panzer Division, veterans of the Blitzkrieg campaigns in France and North Africa, commanded by the ambitious General Hans-Joachim Lemke.

----

The Battle of Bembridge: Summer 1942

In the summer of 1942, the German High Command launched Operation Seelöwe II, a bold, high-risk invasion of the Isle of Wight as a springboard for their delayed invasion of Britain. At the heart of this operation was the formidable 21st Panzer Division, seasoned in the campaigns of France and North Africa. Their objective: capture and secure the coastal town of Bembridge in the southeast, a strategic point for supply lines and a staging area for subsequent attacks on Portsmouth.

Facing them were the combined forces of the British 51st (Highland) Armoured Division and elements of the Canadian 4th Armoured Division, hurriedly reinforced to repel the German assault. Bembridge’s narrow lanes, cliffs, and surrounding marshlands provided a natural defensive advantage for the Allies, but the Germans brought overwhelming firepower, including Panzer III and Panzer IV tanks and mechanized infantry.

----

The Defense of Bembridge

The British 51st Armoured Division, commanded by Major General Douglas Wainwright, had fortified Bembridge with a layered defence. Churchill tanks were dug into hull-down positions along the main roads, while Canadian Sherman tanks and infantry patrolled the surrounding countryside to prevent German flanking maneuvers.

Canadian troops, under Brigadier General Alan MacKenzie, took advantage of the natural chokepoints created by Bembridge’s geography. Booby traps and anti-tank mines slowed the German advance, and sniper fire from the rooftops harassed the attackers.

Despite this, the Germans pressed forward, utilizing their superior coordination between tanks and infantry. A fierce tank battle erupted on the outskirts of Bembridge, with Panzer III and IVs trading fire with Churchill and Sherman tanks in close-quarters combat. Streets became impassable as wrecked vehicles turned them into a labyrinth of destruction.

Good Luck to all tankers! ;)

--- reminder ---

S! All IL-2 Tankers, the next AAS-SCG PvP TC Event will occur Sunday, February 16 at 7 pm UTC+1 (Paris Time) - or 1:00 pm (EST NA).

--- Here are some tips on how the AAS-SCG PvP Tank Crew Event works ---

1- Try to join the event around 15-20 minutes before the start;
2- Join your team AAS Discord chat - for coms & info from your commander (you can choose a channel for you or your squad);
3- The password will be given before we start (by the commander);
4- When inside the Event server, choose your tank base and select your tank;
5- You can start your tank and move out of the spawn area, but you need to stay in your base;
6- All players need to wait the 10 min delay before the start;
7- When the start signal (siren), you can start moving for the town of Bembridge - signs at each base will give you the direction to go;
8- The Allies need to defend the town of Bembridge (you must find the flag and then protect it);
9- The Axis needed to capture the flag and wait for the confirmation message that the town was taken;
10- You can Re-Arm, Re-Fuel and Repair by going back to your tank base;
11- For the RRR, find the blue smoke (for the Allied) and the red smoke (for the Axis) - at the tank spawns;
12- You can take any of the tanks or trucks (don't take the Bride Engineer Tank), only if your commanders tell you;
13- We ask that all players have the grass on in the game settings;

14- When in-game, always verify that you are inside the BLACK CIRCLE (Battle area) - if not sure, open the map and zoom that area (the black icon is you);
15- For a more enjoyable time, you are invited to download the skins pack from the Haluter Skin Downloader (HSD);
16- Please try to stay until the end of the mission (3hr mission), so that you can help your team - it's a team coop mission;
17- All players are invited to take photos or video clips in-game to share after on our IL2 Tank Crew - General Discussion post;
18- If you have any other questions, please ask them a few days before the Event!

Important note about downloading the skins: It takes time to download the tank skins on HSD, please try to do it a few days before the event. For those wondering why you need the AAS-SCG pack,... so you can see your team tank skins! ;)

See you all at the event & have fun!
Cheers, GenMarkof

--- A few questions and answers to help you at the PvP TC Event ---

----

Q1: At what time should I get on AAS Chat Discord? A: Each team (player) should be online on the AAS Team Chat Discord at least 15 minutes before the start of the event so that you can organize and talk strategy.

Q2: What must I do when I spawn inside the mission? A: When you enter the mission, please zoom the map area so that you can see the Tank spawns and select the one you want to spawn in. Be careful, if you spawn on the wrong side, a penalty of 120 minutes (2 hours) will be needed to spawn back on your side!!!

Q3: When can I start moving when I get on the server? A: Each team need to wait 10 minutes (waiting time) before starting the mission. A message and sound will inform the start of the mission. After spawning, you can move from the spawn area so that other players can spawn, but you need to stay in your base.

Q4: How do I repair, refuel or rearm (RRR)? A: For tankers, you need to find the red smoke (Axis) or blue smoke (Allied) at each tank spawn and stop your engine near that area.

Q5: Why do I need to stay in the Black Circle Area? A: Since the main task for the Axis is to capture the flag and for the Allies to defend it, this will give you enough space for the main battles. Be careful, even in the black area, you may have AI AT guns in each zone near enemy spawns. If you stay inside the town area, you won't be shot by AT guns, just enemy tanks! ;)

----

Q6: Why is the flag not moving when I am beside it? A: If the flag is not moving, a good chance an enemy tank is near the radius of the flag. You need to eliminate it before the flag can move.

Q7: Why do I need to download the skin packs on HSD? A: These skin packs (AAS) and (SCG) are made to have a more immersive time when tanking in multiplayer missions or PvP TC events. Also, most tank skins are made by the IL-2 Tank Crew community.

Q8: Why am I always getting disconnected from the server? A: If your PING (Internet connection) is too high, you might get disconnected. We are trying our best to have a tick delay lower than 7, which helps the CPU on the server!

Q9: Why are so many convoys (Trucks, Navy fleets,...) static in this mission? A: Since this is a PvP human tanker, we are trying to keep a low tick delay on the server for better gameplay for all the players.

Q10: Why are we using this tank set? A: For each (chapter/battle), we are trying to find the tanks that will fit the best with the scenario. As you know, the numbers and types of tanks are very limited for the Western Front.

Q11: Why fictional battles and the Isle of Wight? A: After playing on many MP Tank Crew servers, it seems that no one was doing missions on the British side of the Normandy map. And knowing that no tank battles ever happen on the Isle of Wight, I decided to call this campaign "Fictional Battles".

----

Q12: When I spawn, where do I go for the Battle (after the mission start signal)? A: When you spawn, you will see base signs, just follow the arrows. If you see signs (do not pass), that means this is not the way to the Battle.

Q13: If I'm not able to play the complete 3 hours? A: No worries, just let it know to your commander know. That way, he might use another strategy when you leave. We do ask that most players stay the full 3 hours so that you can help your team until the end.

Q14: Can we give some comments after the event? A: Absolutely, we will do a fresh debrief after the event or a few days after, all are welcome to join us. Just try not to be too hard when saying things, bad or good, this will help a lot! thx

Q15: Can we do photos or videos after the event and where can I post them? A: Like in the last events, post all the photos or videos that you want in the IL-2 Forum / Tank Crew post of Operation Bembridge. We might give a prize for all the posts that we get after the event (a time limit will be given for the draw).

----

New updates (for Sunday Event):

Why do I see a bunker with red lights near the road? A: This means that you are at the limit of the Black Circle on the map and that you need to go back inside the Black Circle. There are (3) limit bunkers near the road, (1) one near the German lines and (2) two near the limit on the Allied side.

Is there anything else I need to know? A: We just added a wooden bridge that will help the Allies get into the town of Bembridge more quickly. If the bridge becomes damaged, the Allies can repair it using a tank named Bridge Engineer. Be careful; if this tank is destroyed, you won't receive any more repair tanks until the end of the mission (only 1 per allied base).

How long will it take to repair the bridge? A: After getting the Bridge Engineer tank beside the wooden bridge, you will receive a message indicating that repairing the damaged bridge will take 10 minutes. Try to have your team assist in defending the bridge.

How come my tank goes in the third person when crossing the wooden bridge? A: It seems that the waves are passing over some part of the bridge, and the tank thinks it's going into the water. Just keep the pedal to the metal, and you should go back to the first-person view.

----- Important tips for the Allies - for Today Event -----

1- When selecting your side... be careful, a penalty of 2 hours is given to anyone spawning on the wrong side!!!

2- When spawning, please wait the 10-minute waiting time (siren) will signal the start of the mission (you can move at that time).

3- You must at all times stay in the Black Circle on the map for battles; you can view your tank icon, so that you know where you are inside that area.

4- After the start, you need to find and defend the flag inside the Bembridge Village.

5- You need to keep the wooden bridge up and running to save time getting to the Village.

6. If the wooden bridge is damaged, ask the commander to use the Engineer Tank to repair it (repair takes around 10 minutes). Messages will inform you when the Royal Engineer will start the repair and when the bridge is again operational. Be careful, only 1 Engineer tank per Allied spawn.

7- If the Allies keep the flag for the (3) hours of the mission, they will win the (FINAL) battle of the Isle of White!

----- Important tips for Axis - for Today Event -----

1- When selecting your side... be careful, a penalty of 2 hours is given to anyone spawning on the wrong side!!!

2- When spawning, please wait the 10-minute waiting time (siren) will signal the start of the mission (you can move at that time).

3- You must at all times stay in the Black Circle on the map for battles; you can view your tank icon, so that you know where you are inside that area.

4- After the start, you need to find and capture the flag inside the Bembridge Village.

5- You can try to destroy the wooden bridge near the enemy side, but be very careful, AI AT guns will be very happy to destroy you!

6- Your main task is to find and capture the flag, so keep this in mind...

7- If the Axis capture the flag, they will win the (FINAL) battle of the Isle of White! Remember, if the flag is not moving, it means that an enemy tanker is near the flag.
