Hi

A few have maybe noticed that the new series 50' cards are coming today .... And Ill make a step up from my 3090'

I'm in Vr reverb G2 ( as long win11 allow me 🤦‍♂️

I guess I'll go for the 4090 second hand ... But if I buy the 5080 , will the il2 machine support the news like DLSS4 and other stuff 🤔

Thanxs

No, this version of Great Battles doesn't support it, maybe Korea if we're lucky.

No, the current engine does not support these things. The new game engine for Korea and The Pacific might support them.

Note that the only thing that the 50-series cards support that won't work on the 4090 is multi-frame generation, which you almost certainly wouldn't want to use for a game like this. All the other features like the improved DLSS/DLAA will come to the 4090.

So I would not worry about getting a 4090 and missing out on this feature. What I would worry about is replacing that G2 before the end of the year.

Yes - All the good things are coming to the 4090 / good to know 👌

If that's how life gonna be about the G2

As written other place / I'll try deleay  the update so I have time to choose

IL-2 GB is relatively easy to run, so with a 4090, you should be able to get great results in the Reverb without any DLSS/DLAA. The new engine will be more demanding, so then it might be an issue. But I do expect them to implement at least DLSS, although probably not right away.

Always smart

DLSS is not great. There's all kinds of ghosting effects, weird artifacts and repeating visuals. The last part is especially problematic at longer view ranges. Its not going to look good for air combat flight games.

Any game built in an engine that requires upscaling, so UE5, I always run DLSS DLAA and still see strange artifacts. It also ruins native so some form of upscale has to be used otherwise everything looks like its being viewed through a terrible screen door. I hope these devs stay away from upscaling, its used as a performance crutch by most devs anyway.

The new DLSS4 transformer edition works and looks really good in DCS and other games. It should work well in IL2 Korea..

Nvidia is the new Intel:

These cards suck--don't waste your money. The 4090 is still the best card for best performance/power usage.

At least on 2D there is support for the Smoot Motion (Frame Generaton) Via driver on the RTX 5000 series.

Kind regards

Tested only on non flight sims and a Quest 3, but interesting comments towards the end, starting at about 25:40. The nearly 80% increase in memory bandwidth may be quite helpful with VR headsets like the Pimax Crystal and Crystal Light, Varjo Aero, and upcoming high res headsets.

I rather doubt a 5090 and a higher-res. headset than my Crystal Light on a 4090 and a 13700k will be visually noticeable in IL-2 GB, since I think this engine is already looking as detailed as it can in my rig.

I bit the bullet and upgraded to a 5080 from a 3080 Ti. There was a decent increase in GPU bound scenarios but minimal difference in CPU bound scenarios. IL2 only has MSAA and DX11, so it can’t take advantage of DLSS or frame gen. Where this card really shines compared to the 30 series is in DX12 games even without the frame gen, and DLSS has fixed a lot of the ghosting effects that it had with its latest updates.

Anyway, generally I skip at least one full generation and wait until I can’t run something at the settings I want before upgrading the GPU. I was getting less than 30 FPS in another sim, hence the upgrade. I also wanted to make sure my system is ready for IL-2 Korea when it drops. I tested IL2 out of curiosity.

if you want to see how it performs in IL-2 Great Battles, here’s the video.
