Say is there somesort of spring driven spool or winder for a longish USB cable like this?

Not that I'm aware of.

Be sure you use the Oculus Debug Tool to bump up the bit rate to at least 500. That makes everything look much better.

The Debug Tool isn't showing up where it should...in fact I'm not finding it in a search...

Probably a million different ones, but the main thing to get started is to get the bit rate up. I think it defaults to 200. I found past 750 didn't make much change for me, but others swear by 960. Remember the higher the bit rate, the more data, so if your PC can't keep up and things aren't smooth you may have to lower it.

One other thing to be aware of is ASW (Asynchronous Space Warp) which will cut your FPS in half if your system can't produce the FPS you have your headset set to. Best to keep that turned OFF so you don't get any jarring stutter when it kicks in. I usually run my Q3 at 72 or 80 fps. Depends on your own personal preference and what you can stomach.

I no longer use cable, so this is all from memory. I'm sure there are many in here using cable that will give you settings for the Debug Tool that work for them. There's more to know when using cable. That's why I like Virtual Desktop, it's easy.

So the changes I make in the Debugging tool will automatically be added to the headset program? I don’t have to hit “apply” or something like that? I’m away from my PC for the next day or two.

With the third part cable I have manged to link the headset and PC,now the big question: will it be self evident on how to access and play BoX and/or CloD beta ? It was easy with Steam and the Reverb, but I had to use Steam Vr ( or with BoX  I usedOpenomposite for better performance and fewer freezes.Hopefully with this new Quest 3 will automatically happen with CloD as a matter of form- I managed to get Open opposite to work with it. Recently…)

BTW Thanks!👍

No apply button. Been awhile, but I think you need to leave the debug tool open before starting the game, but this might only be if you toggle AWS to off. I can't recall, others using cable will be able to tell you.

Finally I am actually seeing the game appear in the goggles!and to be almost there in terms of playing the sim, But when BoX appears on my monitor and in the goggles it appears as if it is in a curved panoramic screen mode and not filling the whole screen, and moves around all over the place if I have one of the hand controller working.I seem to remember you can disable the handcontrollers and go back to just the mouse by key-stroking Windows key, and key 7 ( or is it 9?) but how do I gat full screen without the curved screen distortion?

Can you please not ask the same question in several threads? It makes a bit of a mess of the forum.

Good point! I’ll definitely keep it in mind. Thanks for reminding me .👍

This is sort of a final comment :yesterday through a long pathway of mistakes on my part and good advice from all of the above Iwas actually able ( not sure how..) to “fly” a test mission in my BoX install ( and believe it or not in the secret sort of, CLOD VR Beta!!)As they say I’ve gotten to the end of the beginning if not the beginning of the end. I’m sure I’ll have a few more question before I get to the “I don’t have to think about it stage…” but for now let me thank all of you for your help and advice.A year or two ago I bought and tested one of the first Oculus wireless headsets ( was it a 2 or 3…can’t remember , but I do remember my first headset was an original Oculus…) and I returned after fruitless attempts to make it operate wirelessly ( “why bother getting a cable, I already have the Reverb G2 with a cable and its easy to keep going with?”)

Anyway the G2 is gone the the greatVR in the sky and needed a replacement ( and I needed a lot of help ..) You guys gave it to me and even in early days I am delighted with the Q3 and all its options. As they say at the end of “Casablanca”  :”this is the beginning of new friendship” with the Oculus and with you guys that ,so far, have made it successful…Thanks!

At the beginning of the end of installation Of the Q3 and having "flown" an initial short mission in BoX ( and believe it or not CloD BetaVR,) may I say thank you for all your patient help.I doubt I could have done it without you!

One last question: I have the Meta link, and with it the Debug feature , and of course Open Composite on my desk top. I've deleted the Oculus Tray Tool that kept showing up floating around the screen just out of touch. Would you suggestany other utilities for the Quest Q3 I've forgotten?

Thanks!
