Two games installed how to have a common key mappings

New game player here! I’ve installed Stalingrad and Bodenplatte.  As I’m still “tuning” my key mappings playing Stalingrad, I thought I could copy that Custom key mapping, name Control1, and paste into the Input/Custom folder of Bodenplatte game.  But, when I then play Bodenplatte it doesn’t work, e.g., joystick not controlling plane, head movement keys different, etc!
How can I fix this? Need some help please!

Why are you running the two titles separate from each other?

Clearly one is steam and one is not but why not just link your accounts?

Because I don’t know how to do that! Yes, Stalingrad is from steam, but I dl’d it, and Bodenplatte is from IL2 store, also dl’d.  I’ve emailed support at 1cgs.net to help get them linked but they said they could only unlink Stalingrad from steam and I could buy it again(?) from the store!  Both titles are dl’d to my pc in the same Games folder.  I don’t use the “launcher” to start either game since I run the .exe in each of their separate folders.  I don’t know what to now, other than reinstall Bodenplatte!

Thank you Hanu 0. However when I startup Stalingrad (Steam) or  Bodenplatte(IL2 store) I do not get an option to link these two titles!  I login and the game launches!  While I wait to figure out how to link my purchases, as I described in my initial post, after copying my Key Mapping custom file, Control1, from the Stalingrad game to the Bodenplatte game, the latter game no longer works with that Key Mapping, so how can I fix this?  Do I have to reinstall Bodenplatte using the tup_Geat_Battles.exe.?

Well, the most frustrating combination is what you currently have... Base game from Steam that is...

IL-2 title is very rare and courtious that you MAY buy your modules practically wherever, but the "Base installation" IL-2 Stalingrad should be from IL-2 Store. And this is mainly for historical reasons I think. For example in DCS you are stuck in the platform you first choose. I'd say that way easiest solution here is to buy IL-2 Stalingrad from IL-2 Store and just forget the Steam version completely. Sale is huge currently.

HOWEVER if you still want to fight with this, you could check from IL-2 steam installation folder under ../data/autoplay.cfg.

If you open it with notepad (I strongly recommend using free software Notepad++ though) First line is most likely:

&enabled=1                       // =1: turn on the autologin

just set that to Zero

&enabled=0                       // =1: turn on the autologin

And save changes. It should now ask for credentials on the next start, and you could try linking those accounts according to guide. (And possibly revert the autologin back to enabled later on).

Thanks again Hanu , nope, I just purchased Stalingrad from IL2 store.  I already have the installer IL2_setup_great_battles.exe on my pc.  Do I select Download for my purchase and put it in the same folder where Bodenplatte is? Then run the installer?  I’m really confused as you can tell!

PS.  ../data/autoplay.cfg from the Steam install folder is

&enabled=0                      // =1: turn on the autologin

I've never installed any separate module so I have no first hand experience. I've had same installation since Battle of Kuban I think. Every new stuff comes with updates, and what you can use depends on your account. (When your installation is based on original Stalingrad package)

But the idea here is that you install the IL2_setup_Great_Battles.exe. It will eventually fetch everything into THAT installation. You do no need to install any other packages. You do not need to have separate Bodenplatte installation. Nor Steam installation any more. You just login with the account where you have the stuff bought (Il-2 store account), and they are enabled within that one installation and are ready to use.

If someone who has played with only later modules and knows better, please correct me. My point in above was to help to get rid of two different installations from different stores. I see that as a biggest possible source of different unexplainable type problems.

One thing about actual bindings itself; you should also check is do have you / have you not any mix-ups with the possible profiles? Ie. you assume using one global profile, but actually it is something else if you have manually copied those bindings between installations. (the attached images). Manually copying those bindings could cause strange behaviour if done partially for example. Sure it is a big job to remap all the stuff, so I understand why one would try to do it

I sorry I cannot give you straight solutions, I only try to guess what could be the problem.

Weird. Just tested this on my own installation and it works for me like I described. If I set it to Zero, I get the login screen eventually when the game loads.

But this is not relevant any more, I guess.

Thank you Hanu, yes not relevant anymore!  But let me put a “period” on my question regarding the shared key mappings.  I had two separate dl’d and installed copies of the BoS code.  So I had two versions of the Custom/keymap file.  I copied one of these and pasted into the other one and it was that one that didn’t work!  But, when I just re-applied all of the key mappings settings in that copied version and “accepted” them the key mappings took effect!  So as you said, all irrelevant now!  I believe I “get it” now!  Thanks for your help, and Aapje and LukeFF.
