71st_AH_Mastiff Posted January 14 Posted January 14 (edited) is the sky raider going to make an appearance? in this series? The Douglas A-1 Skyraider (formerly designated AD before the 1962 unification of Navy and Air Force designations) is an American single-seat attack aircraft in service from 1946 to the early 1980s which served during the Korean War and Vietnam War. Skyraider production ended in 1957 with a total of 3,180 having been built. In 1962, the existing Skyraiders were redesignated A-1D through A-1J and later used by both the USAF and the Navy in the Vietnam War. Edited January 14 by 71st_AH_Mastiff 4 1
Avimimus Posted January 14 Posted January 14 I hope so too. It is the American counter part of the Il-10 in this threatre (moreso than the Au-1 or the Fairy Firefly). Also, it'd be pretty good at moving mud. 2
AndyJWest Posted January 15 Posted January 15 ...and we've got to include the iconic armament option. 😛 (Maybe not, this was 1965) 1 1 2
=MERCS=JenkemJunkie Posted January 15 Posted January 15 Age is just a number. It would be really funny to go infantry bowling with that. We must have it. 1

Hmm.... well, I suspect MajorMagee may be saying that the armament option of the toilet (or kitchen sink) is prototypical to Vietnam and not Korea... so we'd need to find a picture from Korea before we could justify asking for such a loadout. 😄 Honestly though, the lack of drapes, a fish shaped weather vane, and a plant-pot for the Roland C.II seems like a higher priority given that we've got good documentation for those (admittedly, the plant pots were probably not an operational loadout).
Aapje Posted January 16 Posted January 16 We also need the exact brand and model of the toilet, plus information on whether the toilet was empty or filled. And if it was filled, we need to know the effectiveness of the chemical weapon in the toilet. Furthermore, we need army testing reports on how effective it was as a weapon. You can send this info to Luke. 1
=MERCS=JenkemJunkie Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Its really just a meme load out. I personally couldn't care less about getting all the little details right on it, but I do have a strong preference for it being filled, however historically accurate poops aren't necessary for my enjoyment. I don't think it's likely we'd get a mod that's there for fun not history, but I'd be pleasantly surprised to get this little meme machine.
Wardog5711 Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Well, the Skyraider could and did carry everything including the kitchen sink. A toilet in Vietnam, but an actual galley sink in Korea. The strike was from Princeton (CV-37) on 25 August 1952. The kitchen sink was reportedly dropped on Pyongyang. One thing to note. Aircraft 502 was used for posed shots, and aircraft 507 actually carried the modified ordnance. It was a 500Pound bomb and the ballistics had to be horrible with the large splash guard of the sink hanging off it. 4 2 3 1
Wardog5711 Posted February 1 Posted February 1 In addition to dropping a kitchen sink in Korea and a toilet in Vietnam, the Skyraider was also a torpedo bomber. For anyone still doubting how awesome the Skyraider was, I give you this: In the terse language typical of Navy action reports, Attack Squadron (VA) 195’s commanding officer noted in the May 1, 1951, entry in the squadron’s chronology the following air operations over Korea. “One bridge strike, one close air support, an Armed Reco, and a Dam Torpedo strike was (sic) launched. Eight torpedoes dropped (2 by VC-35).” The description of the mission made it seem routine, a typical day for a squadron operating over Korea, but to be sure there was nothing further from the truth about the torpedoing of the gates of the Hwachon Dam by AD Skyraiders from the carrier Princeton(CV 37). May 1, 1951, Commander Dick Merrick, Commander, Carrier Air Group 19, led eight Skyraiders (five from VA-195 and three from VC-35) off the deck of Princeton and set course for the Hwachon Dam. Among them was then Lieutenant (junior grade) James R. Sanderson, who recalled the attack run. “Down we streamed at tree-top level, throttled back almost to idle…This approach seemed like we were in slow motion. Even so, I felt rushed when slowing the rate of descent to attain level flight at 75 feet on the radar altimeter. Approaching 1,000 yards from the dam, I eased the nose of the aircraft down slightly. As the radar altimeter approached 50 feet, I gave the center station jettison handle a firm, steady tug. The aircraft responded with its customary jump, giving thanks for the lighter load.” Six of the torpedoes ran true, knocking out two gates and damaging another one, which sent water pouring through and raised the level of the rivers, blocking advancing Communist troops. In addition, no longer would the enemy be able to control the water levels, that job passing to Mother Nature. JGr2-J5_Tabasco Posted August 20 Posted August 20 I am looking forward to the Korea release however I really wish the Skyraider was included for the ground attack possibilities. I remember a good film with William Holden where he is shot down and Skyraider's strafe the Koreans looking for him.
Trooper117 Posted August 20 Posted August 20 You might see a Skyraider when and if a carrier dlc follows the main release...

I'll bet you there was many Marines that wished the Skyraider's would drop a ton of crap on the Chinese and KPA!
=MERCS=JenkemJunkie Posted September 1 Posted September 1 According to this it was used in Vietnam and the pilots loved it and joked about it being "germ warfare". https://www.warhistoryonline.com/war-articles/u-s-navy-dropped-a-toilet-bomb-from-an-a-1h-skyraider-vietnam.html They snuck it onto the plane without the officers knowing and made a vid of the drop. 1
