Friendly planes as stand-ins for enemy planes.

Is there a way to turn this off? I just flew my first PW mission in over two years and imagine my bewilderment when my flight leader was shot down by Fe2s. Kind of lol but he died, so less lol. 😁

There is not.  It can't be turned off because there is no such thing as early war WWI without two seaters.  

 

There are no proper early war German recon planes.  No early war French recon planes either.  In fact, there is only one recon plane that even remotely fits early war and that is the FE2b.  So I use if for everything. The Fee is an FE2B, a Farman, and an Albatros C.II.  The DFW, RE8, Strutter, and even the Roland are way too modern for early 1916.  If I ever get an early German recon (been 16 years so I'm not holding my breath) I will use it.  Same with an early French recon.

 

One option that you do have is don't play early 1916.  By August 1916 only two German units are still using the Fee as a stand in as they are replaced by a way too early DFW.  By September 1916 only 1 unit.  By October 1916 they are gone.

Thanks Pat. The ones I saw had RFC markings though (roundels etc). I saw somebody mentioned having to install German skins separately. I've looked but cannot find them.

Did you pull them again after the release?  I had to redo them.

That's on me as well.  Usually I do not like to change the content of existing downloads like skins.  However, this time around I changed so much, including eliminating a lot of skins that were effectively dead weight, that I just couldn't keep the existing downloads as is.
