PatrickAWlson Posted January 10 Posted January 10 Let's take the FE2b. Just fly it and watch the gunner. He will shoot the forward gun almost straight down. The stock is above his head. Now try to attack an FE2b from behind and below. The gunner is firing down at you. Not possible! I don't think that it was even physically possible to traverse the over wing rear gun to fire down, much less the idea of firing it through your own tail section. Recommendation: put traversal limits on the things. A gunner should only be firing at angles where he can shoulder the weapon. He should not be firing with the stock above his head. He should not be firing through critical plane parts. 1 1
1CGS LukeFF Posted April 22 1CGS Posted April 22 In real life, there was an additional degree of freedom to move the MG or even two, so the actual limits are debatable. These too optimistic firing angles, in some cases, are a compensation for that.
