Engine Failure mod ?

Salute,

was wondering if such a mod exists (ROF/FC).

History tells us that many a brave pilot never made it to the front due to engine failures. You can bust your motor by doing various things i know, but those chance failures never pop up. Would be nice for career etc....

No its never been modeled in either RoF or Il-2 unfortunately even though its been asked for quite a few times over the years. I wish they would model it, along with wear and tear of aircraft. Pilot accounts of the time would often speak about certain aircraft in the squadron which were worn out or had a lot of hours on them and which werent as fast as the other aircraft etc.. we dont get any of that - every aircraft in the squadron is always brand new with 0 hours on the engine for every mission.. not very realistic

@Lederhosen, I'm not aware of such mods for RoF - but I have reduced the value for the following entry, "MinEngineHealth," in the various "caeroplane" files available in my AI mods packages for RoF. Theoretically, reduction of that value should increase chances of engine trouble and also of difficulties starting up engines. Have noticed occasionally that I have a dud engine that way while still sitting at an aerodrome.

Cheers all and historical engine reliability to you in your hardcore campaigns,

😊

You can completely destroy your engine if you over rev in a dive, in any FC aircraft.

A random. In career our campaign setting... You can't sortie, because your engine is dud. Could be fun.

Or, mid way in your campaign worn out engine seems ok. But just quits.

Wanting to burn to death for immersion is a strange stance to adopt, but I'm here with you 100%. I'm sure many people would find it annoying, but I think a non-zero chance of an engine catching fire during low-stress maneuvers is just another layer of depth that connects us to the poor guys who had that as their fate.

I love seeing how far I can go in a PWCG campaign with permanent death on.
