Multiplayer IL2 Wishlist

These days I am very saddened to find less and less people seems to be playing in IL2 multiplayer. WoL seems to be the only server alive.  As a real-life pilot myself, IL2 is by far the most realistic flight sim and the only flight sim I enjoy.  I have tried MSFS, X-plane, DCS... (also non flight sims like AceCombat and Star Wars etc).  I truly admire the math & physics modeling skills of the developer behind IL2.

Multiplayer IL2 would be so much more fun (without sacrificing realism) with these improvements that should be easy to implement:

- Native voice communication. I know TeamSpeak is used in WoL but when I tried it I only find Russian people using it.  Any real life pilot can tell you radio communication is an integral part of the flying experience.  This is especially true as this game is best played in VR and it is impossible to type in chat wearing a VR headset.  These days 99% of game with multiplayer capability provides native, in-game voice communication.

- Eliminate artificial delay in reporting battlefield status.  Often there is 5-10 min delay in prompt of "Objective XYZ is being attacked" in WoL.  This maybe more historically accurate but makes a frustrating experience for everybody.  Instead, the reporting should have negative delay, i.e. "There are seen XX enemy aircraft approaching objective XYZ",   I think this is not only more fun but should be more realistic given the usage of radar in WW2 especially the Western front.

- Color coding of friendly/enemy player name in chat display.  The display "Person A is killed by Person B" should use color coding to make it clear if a Red has killed a Blue or a Blue has killed a Red.

- Option to add AI/bot wing-men, especially for bombers.  In WW2 it is standard practice for bombers to attack in large formations to provide better protection. If IL2 is aiming for realism, them it is not even remotely realistic for a single bomber to head out to attack objective, but that is exactly people are being forced to do unless playing with a group of friends.

I think the developer can take advantage of the IL2 flight sim engine to add these features:

- Design your own airplane.  Coming from the hobby aerobatic pilot / engineer background myself, it would be very interesting to allow people to design their own airplane, starting from choosing airfoil, wingspan, wing-area, size of aileron, elevator & rudder control surface.  With the constraint of available engines with horsepower/weight, then this should not even disrupt the balance of multiplayer game. The additional dimension of designing own airplane suited for particular types of tactics in multiplayer would make the game infinitely more interesting to play.

What comes to  artificial delay in reporting battlefield status, at least in Finnish server it tells "enemy spotted near Xyz, distance XX km, alt XX". And it is not dead, amount of players vary. Sometimes just few but especially weekend evenings, easily around 50. Best night I remember not so long ago was over 70. It is full realism, neither icons nor your location shown on map, or messages telling who was killed or was a killer.

Understood, by no means I am asking icon showing location on map. In WoL and most other server there is message telling Player A destroyed Player B. In fact I don't think there was any server without such message. One can easily look up which side is Player A or B, so it would be nice to have color coding like 99% of other multiplayer games, should take literally just a few lines of code to implement.

AI wing men is a nice idea.

However, in MP I could only see that working with low server numbers.

Say there was 70 on a server, and 30 players chose 1-2 AI wing men, that would likely crash the game for many, if not the server itself.

There are servers that don't display 'x killed y' messages, Flugpark (ww1) for example, and I don't think Finnish does either if I remember correctly.

Personally I'd rather have that feedback, and I'd be supportive of using colours.

It's currently a server option, so we have to let the server operators chose how they want to configure it.

Earlier messages on targets being attacked would be good though !

Multiplayer wishlist from tankers point of view:

1) Remove porcelain parts from panzers and Stug. Touching a tree with walking speed or even while turning on a spot pretty often breaks engine, tranny, steering and even both tracks. I have a feeling this is not exactly accurate damage model, based on my experience in armed forces and many books I've read about the subject.

2) Fix APHE. At least in German panzers it's still a rubber bullet against everything else than AIs and player driven tanks. HEAT works also weird; I killed bridge w/ them but could not blow up static truck.

3) Will invent something to whine about and add it in here later.
