LW_Pilot777 Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 Hi guys I have a question is this normal to get some nasty ,,see through,, holes when using custom made skins ofcourse from official templates in front of official added to game skins without this ,,holes,, ? maybe I do something wrong mainly I work in PS CS3 and CS6 please look at the engines on sreeenshots Ju-88c grey bay of biscay is offical skin vs my NJG skin with this strange holes ... Thanks from help in advice !!!! Cheers 🍻
Hook_Echo Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 Usually when I get holes it's a problem with the alpha layer. The alpha layer sets the transparency/shine of the material. If there is a problem there it can make parts go clear. 1

Can You tell me more please it`s interesting because I never do any mess in alpha channel to much , maybe do little darker to get more matt plane scheme but never had any trouble with darker places etc ... in here I see problem directly in engine area .. and I don`t know what is goin on ...
Hook_Echo Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 Here's an example. I darkened the alpha channel of the standard P-38. I just paint filled the whole thing so it makes everything darker. This is what it looks like, and then the next picture in the viewer you can see how it made the internals go clear. It is important to only darken the areas you want to dull in the alpha layer and not darken the other spots. Too dark and it will make the parts clear. When I first started without any photoshop/gimp experience I didn't understand the alpha stuff and I would darken the whole layer, thinking that was the easy way, and I got transparent internals. Eventually I did a P-51 bare metal skin, and I basically made a new alpha layer from scratch. I'd like to never do that again. The last picture is what happens if you do a completely black alpha channel. 1
Raptorattacker Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 If you want to make the paintwork less 'shiny' then use the equivalent paintwork layer in the ALPHA Template and darken it. That's what it's for, that's why the ALPHA template has different layers. If the equivalent layer is not available in the ALPHA then make it from the main template, convert it to Greyscale (grayscale) and put it INTO the ALPHA. If you darken a flat image of the ALPHA then you darken everything on the plane, not just the paintwork, then things that are not meant to be made any less shiny ARE. Things in an ALPHA that are TOTALLY BLACK result in them becoming transparent in the finished skin. Unless you want somethning to totally disappear on your plane then you should have NO completely black areas on your ALPHA layer. Rap 1 1
