I don't know the exact phenomenon that is happening here that contradicts to what we see in the NACA 868 report. However, I do suspect that when, and if we ever do, start modeling pilot physiology. Then we'll start to see why aircraft like the P-47, given its roomy cockpit, allowed the pilot to exert more lbs on the flight stick vs lets say a Bf-109. Where as on paper there is nothing to choose from and in some cases actually inferior when comparing roll rate(P-51) at the exact same stick force. I wonder if the devs were going down this route, but the backlash from the Fw-190A being out rolled by a La-5 wasn't believable. I don't know, but I do wonder if we are a long way from realistically simulating WW2 air combat.

Yes, but there's nothing wrong with that.  We're light years away when you can drop full flap and do a roll or fly inverted right above stall speeds.  It's a game and most of us don't know the difference any way comparing it to past gaming experience.  It does enough correct the rest can accept it as close and entertaining enough.

For me it's all about what your doing and the environment your doing it in, developing coordinated and effective tactics to succeed with my group is just so much fun.  You work with what your given.
