In both WinWing and Virpil devices you can assign buttons on different positions of an axis. For instance if you have an buttron assigned to the very end of a throttle axis you could assign this to "Afterburner on" or something similar.

However in this game if you try to map this axis it detects the button so you cannot use the axis.

Even if you try to edit the file current.map you run into the problems that the axis naming isn't what you se in the windows control panel. So RX, RY and RZ ends up having a completely different endings in IL2 (u,v,s or w?)

In DCS you can manually assign a command to a button or an axis from a drop down list, completely bypassing the auto-detection.

If someone has a list of how to force IL2 to use a specific axis let me know.

I have owned this game for years but never really played it because of having trouble assigning commands once I moved into some more serious hardware.

You don't need to move the axis across its entire length for IL2 to detect it, so if your buttons are only at the very end, you could probably get IL2 to recognise the axis without reaching the button position.

Failing that, you might try to temporarily disable the buttons; then setting the axis commands in IL2; finally re-enabling the buttons again and map these in IL2.

I know these are workarounds rather than solutions, but I still hope they'll help you.

Yeah I considered this but it will make buttons shift and disappear. And I have other games that currently are mapped and I don' wan't to remap in these games. Unfortunately I have a button mapped to the center position of 2 axis, so I cannot move the axis without buttons getting triggered.
