Blitzen Posted December 14, 2024 Posted December 14, 2024 I have a friend in England who would like to know more before he opts in the GB and VR. Is there a video that might present him with the benefits , even to a beginner flight simmer? Thanks!
Aapje Posted December 14, 2024 Posted December 14, 2024 Note that the sweating problem is not something that I have an issue with and that the Sheriff has since moved to VR. I would say that it is going to be a challenge for a beginner to both learn the game and its quirks, the HOTAS, as well as tune everything for VR. So I'd personally suggest to first fly on the flat screen until the person has got their HOTAS set up well enough and feels comfortable, and only then go to VR. And the benefits are hard to really convey. It boils down to both a much greater feeling that you are actually in the plane, rather than observing someone flying the plane, but also having much more natural vision.

Sweating is easily resolved with a fan blowing on your face. Highly suggested to also keep the motion sickness at bay. Learning in VR is rough. Completely agree with the above. Learn on flat screen. Also, consider looking into VoiceAttack. Eliminates much of the need to search for buttons in VR. Worth the 10 bucks and trial allows 20 commands to test with. Immersion is the key benefit for VR. You are there! TLDR: I agree wholeheartedly with everything Aapje said! 1
spreckair Posted December 15, 2024 Posted December 15, 2024 I absolutely love VR and have only flown in VR since returning to flight sims four years ago. In my own experience, I think a lot depends on how comfortable your friend is with troubleshooting computer issues, because VR and the various hardware and software that is needed to run it entails embarking on a process, and can take some (or quite a bit of) problem-solving. I know a lot of people who would not come close to tolerating the hassles that can come with VR. But I myself would not fly without it. 2 2
giftgruen Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 (edited) Same here. Once in VR ( with a modern headset and a fast system - I ended with a 4090 now ) you will never go back to flat. Simulations - let it be flight sims or also racing - are simply so much more immersive. However ... yes, it's an expensive joy. If you cant afford this, it can be frustrating. Nowadays I'd give the Quest3 a try ( owning a Quest Pro ). Probably best money/fun rate. But really don't underestimate PC hardware needs. Edited December 16, 2024 by giftgruen 1
[CPT]Crunch Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 Enter the world of VR with much care and research if you don't have a flexible budget, one misstep, one bad component and you'll be bitterly kissing the pooch.

Too true…even with years in this sim and others the learning curve and mis-steps can be very frustrating,I’m here to tell you1🤥
