Skin builder for player aircraft ?

Please excuse me if this topic has been mentioned before, I rarely comment on the forum.

Just a thought, would it be possible for a player to customise their own aircraft by choosing from a number of presets ? For example, fuselage, choice of say, three or four colour schemes. Same with the cowlings, struts, spinner etc etc (not to mention pilot faces. 😉 )

The skin could then be written to a custom file - not quite sure how this could be done - in layers which are then rendered down ?

 

It'd make the game more personal and interesting and wouldn't have to be just confined to career mode.
