B-26 Marauder with Dakota engines!

I can't believe that in this forum full of plane geeks I could be the first to realize this issue. But, well, I did not find a thread about that, so maybe...

Let's get to the point: The B-26 Marauder bomber is severely underpowered because of a tremendous information mistake.

I was always puzzled by the slowness of the bomber in this game.

Then, by chance, I visited the "Museum" section of this site. The B-26 specification there states that the two engines are...

           Pratt & Whitney R-1830 Twin Wasp (!!!) : 14-cylinder, 1200 hp, the C-47 and Wildcat engines 😲

But the real B-26 was powered from scratch by a couple of gorgeous Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp: 18-cylinder, 2000 hp: the Hellcat and Thunderbolt engine.

So I now understand why the Marauder is 100 kph slower than it should be: she has Dakota engines. I wonder how she can take off from the ground with the full load.

Crazy, would love to hear a logical explanation for that

The specs are from the C-47A, it's a copy/paste error.

👏 Correct, silvergun. All the information is the same. The B-26's ceiling was much lower than C-47's. I hope they will fix the Marauder file, I'm curious about the true specs, I still think she's too slow.

As it's an AI only aircraft, the speeds it's running in the game have all been assigned by the devs or mission makers for it's waypoints when building the scenarios we have it in.

It has nothing to do with the aircraft's specifications or it's real world test speeds.

From a quick look at Wiki...

Quote
  • Maximum speed: 287 mph (462 km/h, 249 kn) at 5,000 feet (1,500 m)
  • Cruise speed: 216 mph (348 km/h, 188 kn)

From the NMUSAF web site...

Quote

Maximum speed: 285 mph
Cruising speed: 190 mph

I have build some single player missions with this bomber and even after dropping the bombs it lacks speed, I think. When in a mission you place a waypoint for a plane, you specify the speed and altitude, and, of course, all that is related to the virtual aircraft specifications and its real world speeds.

Thanks for the info, I simply wanted to compare with the values in-game. But it has become clear that she doesn't have Dakota engines 😅

Probably should post it over in the bug sub forum (there is no website issues area) so it is more visible. Even if it turns out to be just a textural error in the museum part of the website if it is visible then it might get fixed. Probably tag LukeFF in the post.

There are multiple errors in the Museum section of the website. These are waiting to be fixed.

These should not be confused with errors in the game engine itself. There are presumably different developers for the flight models and for the website.

And furthermore, this is just a typo - the B-26 has the correct engines fitted.
