Sandman3838 Posted November 22, 2024 Posted November 22, 2024 Good day everyone, I have a question for you all that I'm sure you all have seen before. About 3-4 years ago, here a friend of mine at work let me try his Mega Quest 3 VR headset for a few weeks. The view over the side of the WW1 aircraft in Flying Circus was incredible and very, very trippy. LOL Loved it! Since then, I have not kept up at all with VR technology at all. My Question - Since then has visualizing your keyboard been addressed for the Quest or any another VR headset? This was my one complaint at the time. ☹ If you notice the attachment you can see one of my Keyboards. Thank you all for your help Sincerely, KJB

To be honest, I'm more interested in the time machine that your friend apparently has (the Quest 3 came out in 2023, so it must have been a Quest 2). 1 hour ago, Sandman3838 said: My Question - Since then has visualizing your keyboard been addressed for the Quest or any another VR headset? However, the rather expensive Somnium VR has native support, which you can see here: But the same is possible for other headsets, if you use a specific third party tool and are using Virtual Desktop to connect to the headset wirelessly:
Sandman3838 Posted November 23, 2024 Author Posted November 23, 2024 LOL Time Machine... Ya your probably correct. I know it was the Quest something. I'll check out the videos and the reset tomorrow..... I have to get up at 5am for work Thanks everyone
Sandman3838 Posted November 25, 2024 Author Posted November 25, 2024 Very interesting..... Not to put you all in the spot for just one, but can you all recommend 2-3 VR setups that I could consider. I would like to narrow my options and research, there is a lot of reading out there on these. Oh, last night I remembered, previously when I tried that Quest 2. Just to get it to run I needed something like 3-4 other programs running in the background. Something like Microsoft VR, Steam VR..... few others I think. Is all this still needed? Thank you for your time
Aapje Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 Microsoft VR (WMR) and Steam VR are both obsolete platforms. The future is the openXR standard. But IL-2 GB is still built for Steam VR, although I hope that changes for the Korea engine. Anyway, there are basically two setups that are the most sensible. Either get the Quest 3 or the Pimax Crystal Light. The former has a lot going for it, including better quality control, being a little less demanding on the hardware, having options for both wireless and wired use, etc. The Pimax has better visual quality although to truly take advantage of it, you need very strong hardware. For the Quest 3, you will need to budget for comfort mods for sure (the default headstrap is pretty much unusable), and perhaps for the Pimax as well. Whatever you get, you will want to do a bunch of tuning to get the most out of it. There are videos to help you with that (especially for the Quest). One of the main questions is whether you have the hardware for VR. In 2022 you posted that you have a 3060, which is very marginal for VR, although it can be done if you don't demand too much.

Certainly some keyboard keys can be committed to muscle memory. Since several controllers are typical, many more functions can be programmed and also accessed with muscle memory. Additionally, VoiceAttack can be programmed so that functions can be accessed via microphone if muscle memory falters, especially for WWI&2 aircraft. Edited November 27, 2024 by Dagwoodyt
