No enemy aircraft in Battle of Mosocw

Hi All,

I am looking for a bit of advice on the topic, if anyone can help me.

I have been progressing through a German career in my game for a long time, having lots of fun - no problems, but for the last 10 maybe 15 missions, leading up to the 'Road to Rzhev' the have been no enemy aircraft at all, and my missions always seem to be escort bombers there and back - they are pretty far away too (45 minutes per mission). I have also just tried the first mission after the 'Road to Rzhev video where the Russians are pretty much on top of my airport and again, no enemy aircraft. I am not sure if there is something wrong with my career or my game installation. I have tried putting the settings up to enemy superiority and all the other settings in that section up to full difficulty but that also makes no difference. Has anybody experienced this before?

I would greatly appreciate any advice, I don't really want to have to delete my career.

What unit and date exactly? And if you have spectators turned on, try cycling through enemy aircraft with Ctrl+F2 a few times during the mission, to see if nothing is spawning or your just not running into them. It seems like with long distance career missions that the travel time can throw the spawn times off.

I'm tempted to say it's some really lucky scenario generation on your part but 10-15 without contacts is a lot.

I just finished a long German career in Moscow and it started off easy and by the time I got towards the end of 1941, the number of Soviet planes was really ramping up.

It's hard to say - it's dependent on so much stuff - date, area of the map.

I would keep playing it.

Hi all,

Thanks for the advice. I used the CTRL + F2 suggestion, about 15 minutes into an 'Escort ground attack aircraft' 6 enemy aircraft did spawn in a group. When I reached my target maybe 6 or 7 minutes later they had turned on their landing lights so I figured I would go and look for them. I found them at the nearest airport north of my target area - so I guess this is what must be happening. I still don't think this can be right though, like I said this is only a recent problem and I can't really get my head around why the enemy aircraft aren't going near my target area - The missions are pretty boring when there is no chance of any enemy contact . I have added a picture of the map showing where my target was and where the enemy aircraft were landing when I found them and shot 1 down (then flew off fast since I don't fancy my chances against 5 more without the element of surprise!).

The unit & date are:

IV./JG 51

Kuvshinovka

11/01/1942

Thanks again for the advice :)

Depends on your frame of mind really. If you're after kills, then yeah it's boring.

If you're trying to get that next promotion or just trying to make it to the end of the battle alive, it's a blessing.

IL-2 generates milk runs as well as missions that are borderline suicide missions and that's part of the fun.

For reference though, I don't think I've ever gotten more than 3-4 missions in a row without contact when flying fighters in Russia.

Do you have your waypoints up on the screen? Are you hitting them accurately to advance them? I think the game might use the players group hitting those as triggers. If you're the flight leader and decide to take some other route to target (or if you're at the wrong altitude) and not advance the highlighted waypoint, maybe that can mess things up.

Try to see if that pattern keeps repeating itself. Enemies spawn in but none go to your target area. It's a little hit and miss doing that because you don't know what the enemies' missions are.

I would keep going with it.

Maybe try transferring to another squadron to see if that makes a difference.

It means you have reached Elysian Fields and you are already dead.

I just started a BoM Career from the beginning, flying a Macchi C.202.  I have also been through hours of missions without spotting an enemy aircraft.  I just escort transports, look at the scenery, and wish the Ju 52 had a faster cruising speed for 45 minutes.  Another thing I like to do is opine that time acceleration could be more effective.

You're flying a Macchi, you should be grateful. What are you going to do if the Russians do show up? Curse them out in Italian? Get on the radio and threaten to call your local Mafia boss? Because that's probably going to do than those two peashooters the nose... :)

The Macci is a nice plane to fly, but it's rather hard to actually kill anyone with it.

I don't think the Macchi has a radio 😆.  At least, in the radio menu I only have the option of various hand gestures 🤏.  So the mob bosses will be have to wait until I land to get the news.

I did try testing the guns once.  I wanted to hear what they sound like.  Turns out, they sound pretty good!

I just got some new flight controller gear and I want to train up on shot placement.  I chose the Macchi to see if I could figure out how to hit the engine more consistently over time.

edit: Finally ran into some enemies.  I put some good hits on a couple of Li-2s which then crashed, and I turned a MiG-3 into a flying sieve who just laughed and went home.  After using all 1700 rounds, I got no credit for anything.  Day 1 of learning how to use my new gear is about what I expected.
