BOO Posted November 14, 2024 Posted November 14, 2024 I started Clod with a Sidewinder and once I figured out its quirks and how to combat the autocannon limpstick sydrome all was good. With something like the Rhino however, Im not sure how or even if it works reliably. Certainly Clod isnt supported by the Telem software. I'll be dissappointed if it doesnt work given the limited scope of warbird simming we have but Im kinda expecting that it wont. Cant test myself at the moment so has anyone had any expererience of using a Rhino or Brunner in Blitz. If so was it good or bad?
Lorena_Scout Posted November 15, 2024 Posted November 15, 2024 I had an issue in the past with the big guns and ffb and they fixed, check those links https://theairtacticalassaultgroup.com/forum/showthread.php?t=36078&highlight=mortar https://theairtacticalassaultgroup.com/forum/showthread.php?t=36116
BOO Posted November 15, 2024 Author Posted November 15, 2024 Thanks @Lorena_Scout. The old Sidewinder and all the dodges necessary to make the thing work Im familar with. From stuff I've read around the forums and discord however, players using newer FFBs are encountering more problems over this. Without wanting to sound like one of those "No VR - no play" guys, unreliable FFB in clod could be an issue as I dont really want to be swapping in and out the Rhino for my old Virpil base.
Lorena_Scout Posted November 15, 2024 Posted November 15, 2024 My ffb works very well, not sure how Rhine works. But you are right, without proper telemetry the forces are not 100% correct, although i can easily tell when I am at max g or about to stall, so at least is very very helpful. they told that there is telemetry built in the code from madox, but they need to find and right now is the focus.

Is yours a Sidewinder 2? I started with one and did appreciate its edge of stall buffeting. My understanding is that there isnt the telemetry in the way there is in DCS and to a lesser extent GB. Obviously there is something based in Direct X for the Sidewinder to work. I saw someone worked out gow to get stuff out of the game for Tacview but I dont how well it works or if that exports the same data that FFB would use. Sadly, I think CloD will slowly get left behind as the world turns. EDIT - happily it seems that the Rhino can emulate a non FFB sprung base so, worst case, I still have an option. Dawson Posted November 15, 2024 Posted November 15, 2024 Boo, have a look at this discussion, https://theairtacticalassaultgroup.com/forum/showthread.php?t=37398&p=395592&viewfull=1#post395592 His experience with a new FFB stick, the FFBeast, is unsatisfactory. I think he's not a native english speaker and some things are lost in translation. It took a few replies to get to his issue.

Obviously if you pay £800 for something, you kinda want it to work as intended but it does seem the Clod isnt currently exporting the telemetry required. I assume, somewhere under the hood it possibly can but its a yet to be tapped thing. Like VR, the increasing re-emergence of FFB puts a lot of pressure on older games to stay current. Sadly I dont think that'll be a thing a the rate CloD is developing.
Gunfreak Posted November 21, 2024 Posted November 21, 2024 I have the brunner FFB base with a Thrustmaster grip, and it works extremely well in Clod
Bussard_x Posted November 22, 2024 Posted November 22, 2024 (edited) Moza, a well known producer of race sim gear, recently put this on the market: MOZA AB9 FFB Base - MOZA Racing | High-Performance Racing Simulators It's compatible with Thrustmaster and Virpil sticks. A table clamp is also available. Edited November 22, 2024 by Bussard_x

Bussard_x Posted November 22, 2024 Posted November 22, 2024 (edited) Personally I prefer the Microsoft Sidewinder format, you can put it on your desk in front of you, move it easily, close to the rudder pedals and has good FFB. I ownded and enjoyed the I (release 1997) and the II (release 2000), with todays technic it should be able to manufacter a modern version with a good price. Edited November 22, 2024 by Bussard_x 1

Dagwoodyt Posted November 22, 2024 Posted November 22, 2024 (edited) A nice thing about telemFFB is that you can have different telemFFB effects and different Configurator settings for each aircraft if you like. I didn't really understand how neat that is until I figured out how to set that up. I'd bet many folks will not appreciate telemFFB until they've used it. I haven't used a desktop joystick setup in the last 4-5 years. I've had a center mounted VKB base with extensions during the past few year and now a Rhino without need for an extension. If I could mod my TPR pedals to use ffb with telemFFB that would pretty much complete my idealized ffb setup. If Moza simply copied software they do not fully understand that may prove problematic. The ffBeast might be another option but that Discord channel doesn't seem very active and as far as I know GVL224 is the only reliable supplier for the ffBeast. For now I am just glad to have a Rhino to experience. The software is key. Edited November 23, 2024 by Dagwoodyt
batmacumba_host Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 Hi everyone! So, if I understood it correctly, these new FFB joys require not only the regular FFB features, but also a telemetry stream in order to provide the full effects to the player? Then, I imagine you guys had to change the configuration file in GB to point that stream to this telemetry software, right? This sounds amazing, I'm looking at my X52 with sadness now, lol. o7

Depends on your specific setup. In my case the process for DCS and GB was automated via the Configurator and thus effortless.

So less than what you got with a Sidewinder and really nothing more that a fancy numb base with a knob to increase or decrease the effect. What I dont understand is why.
FlyinCoffin Posted July 6 Posted July 6 (edited) Fuck iwas writting Long Post but editor broke. Two things I did wrong as beginner which would lead others to quit the sim.maybe Turn resolution to max you get amazing graphics. I was playing on native resolution.which looked worse than il2 GB. Now it's comparable with DCs and il2 GB. Didn't thought that just thought it's the age of the game but now it's shines amazing. I have rtx2070s .it looks like graphic update pack Second was stick sensitivity the stick moved awkward but certain Post said and let me. believe that a 2 ww plane is so sluggish. Now I turned "sense" to 1. With small deadzones found out it turns amazing. I have a a10 stick with a longer rod. I did this mistake cause I flew su33 to much in DCs. And came to believe 2ww plane very ruggish sluggish you can hit but it's really difficult ..... This two things which I think leads some player to confusion about the sim may lead to the il2 GB "is better opinion" IDK at all. I see huge potential in il2 clod. If the implent all those modern sim things. Missions with a lot planes like "Adlerangrif" With idk 30 to 40 bombers on side red(nazis are red not blue) and 16 fighters on side blue and also I think 12-20 fighters on team red. No fps drop it just looks great. Ffb, haptic hf8 pad, sim shaker (butt kicker) Weather and so on. I don't bought VR goggles. I still use flat screen with track ir. But I see real huge potential in il2 clod now Which I didn't thought of in the past. I would also like that this project gets more attention and love it has definite it should have. They wanted to bring out an expansion and I lol forgive me laughed cause I thought this sim is done......but no sry I was so wrong. This thing got huge potential. I would also like to support these guys with being a pilot for certain things or just being there or giving them regular pay( monthly) so they may can get more support on their hand. I can't use it at the moment cause I cant use it online but in future This sim is great with huge potential. Edited July 6 by FlyinCoffin 2
