screenshot comparison ROF vs Flying Circus

I am revisiting my old flight sims and with FC I only have FCIII. I had thoughts about getting FCI and FCII but .... This sim series is pretty old right now and the cost of $80 USD is not AUD friendly at $125 for each title. I also own ROF United with all the add ons so was wondering if anyone has done a side by side screenshot comparison to show any significant differences that might justify the expense? I do not fly my sims that often but would upgrade if it looks that much better. I use TrackIR not VR so that is not a factor.

Even without mods I think RoF does look a lot better very subtle. Flying Circus graphics are just okay, but very bland the trees are terrible so generic. First shot is RoF with no mods. Second is comparison FC and RoF with Fubar V2 mod. Same area autumn. Just my opinion. I really prefer RoF and fly mostly that.

Thanks Dr1falcon500 you are confirming what I have been thinking. Thank you for the screenies. Where did you get the ROF texture mod?

First page mods for Rise of Flight this thread, New Landscape Textures (originally posted by Fubar) You need JGSMSE mods installer too.

RoF, game from 2009, is still hard to beat in terms of beauty. It was milestone in air sims that will not be beaten even in next 10 years i swear. In 2009 when i saw first trailers i was shocked that not-known small game studio can do such unbelievable things! Remember that in this time we had such "photorealistic" xD sims like First Eagles, IL-2 1946 or Battle of Britain II.

IL-2 FC is more complex, has better damage model (for example - you can "cut" control cables and lose ailerons and elevator control), has better "details" graphic (because IMO "overall" graphics and effects are worse than in RoF). Unfortunately AI is worse (how did it happen?). IL-2 FC is still supported by the developers, so this is the big advantage for it. It is sad that RoF has been abandoned. If WoFF is based on old as hell CFS3 engine, imagine what developers could do with RoF engine...

And... in IL-2 i can feel that it is just a mod for WW2 flight sim. I can't describe this, but there are so many details that correspond more to WW2 than WW1 era that makes this game not-so-attractive for me. Planes bouncing for 20 meters in the air after crashing in the ground, typical IL-2 BoX UI, a couple of career missions imported from WW2 etc.

Some of the graphic elements of Rise of Flight still beat FC in particular trees and water and the look of NML and overall appearance. Flying Circus in my opinion lacks a lot of feel of WW1 in graphics, AI and career. In RoF planes start a mission in a starting line as happened in reality. FC planes start in two rows, I haven't seen any photos of Fokkers or any other planes starting like that. AI in RoF was always fairly reasonable, FC on the other hand planes mostly just evasive much of the time. I think most of the basic flaws in FC stem from it not being entirely separate from GB. Whatever updates and fixes that are okay for WW2 seem sometimes effect FC badly, my opinion. When I bought RoF in 2010 it was the best WW1 sim, it was just so great and its still the best. I've got RoF, FC and WOFF. Rise of Fight is what I use about 80%, I could easily never use the others.
