Yes, our coders used the Essex carrier model from Pacific Fighters to see if planes can take off and land right now from a carrier deck. And yes, they can. 🙂

Very interesting! DX11 and 12 well explained! The best thing is to make the whole thing future-proof! No matter how long it takes! I'm already looking forward to the new module being released after Korea and the Pacific... the main thing is that I can fly a 109er in VR... 🤣

I flew before in 1946 and have been flying GB since founder. I switched from 3 monitors to the first Backer VR Pimax. Then a 10 year break and back again. Please don't forget VR! I would never fly a flight simulator with a monitor again! Even if I had so many disadvantages. My new project is a 14900K and 4090Ti with the Quest 3! My current 9900k and 2080Ti with the Quest 3 and 80HZ with an average of around... 45 FPS, a smooth result! But it has to be better gg😂

I understand the team prefer not to show things outside of their best light, but it would be very interesting to see this kind of prototype in action some time!

I'll see if there is anything we can show.

Alright, so the word from up above is that it'll be something we show in a future update.

Sounds like lack of ground detail would not be a limiting factor in implementing heli's.😉

Good video, but still waiting for news on whether the new engine supports OpenXR natively.

I feel like art can compensate at least a bit. For instance, lets say that there are limits to tree densities (if one wants to have quality trees). Improving the forest landscape in other ways can help.

Having multiple parts of the map with different types of forest (like in Battle of Moscow). Having a few trees which are much taller than the others (called 'emergents' in botany). Having some shrublands with only bushes...

...that could be impressive enough that people would see a major improvement (even with low densities of trees) - and that is mainly just using art.

:salute:  Wow!  Terrific video!  So much information!  I greatly appreciate the professional, easy to understand, translation.  Sounds like it will be time to replace my 2020 PC with its Geforce RTX 2070 graphics card to get the best visual performance in IL-2 Korea.  Can't wait to pre-order the game!  Hope that will be soon in 2025.  Swoose

I hope they also find a way to make the map terrain look less artificial. For example by additing more varied ground textures, adding sandbanks and river bank vegetation to upriver areas, different forest types (coniferous/broadleaf/mixed), etc.

For naval operations, I hope that the sea state will match the beaufort scale, and will be available as presets for mission creators like clouds presets in current engine. Would love to look at see and judge the wind speed.

Or if the game engine would support DLSS/FSR , perhaps more types of anty aliasing ...

Damn, im sorry for my last post :P, thats exactly i was waiting for, thanks for the update :drinks:

I'm excited for the improved clouds. Il-2 already has the best looking clouds in my opinion - so more variety or other improvements will raise the bar.

I noticed that the devs appear to be hinting that more non-flight modules might be built. Perhaps IL-2: Pacific Fleet :P

Well, those considerations are coming from the people working on deep game-engine development, looking at making something flexible for the next decade - I wouldn't think it indicates anything about plans for products.

That said, a couple of thoughts:

1. The ground detail is said to be better the Prokhorov/Tank Crew... so the map used for air operations could also be used for vehicles. Without the need for a new map, it is quite plausible that developing a couple of ground vehicles as Collector Vehicles would be quite viable. I'd personally like a staff car or truck to just explore the map with.

2. Surface ship and submarine operations generally happen at time scales that are much greater than those used for aircraft... so naval simulations generally have time compression levels which are incompatible with high fidelity flight models. This makes naval operations unlikely (without a lot of work to make a kind-of second game engine). An exception are torpedo boat operations, which generally rely on ambushes at fairly close ranges. So, I could see it as being much more possible for a Solomons or New Guinea module to have a PT-Boat expansion.

I started with Red Baron 3D.

https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Baron

Then IL2 1946 and then GB!

Now comes Korea! Can I fly a 109 there!!! No!!! Totally blöd 😂

Now everything is better! What is better! Of course, the ground graphics! The cockpits looked good in 2001 too! 👍Only the surroundings look crap!🧐 I think that's the wrong approach! Unfortunately, I don't have any other solution up my sleeve. It can get a little better but it's still light years behind real perception. And you need the fastest computer! But I do have an idea! GG Use drones to take endless real-time pictures of the air and clouds. From 10m to 10,000m, from winter to summer... And then use the AI to make something coherent out of it! You then use that as the weather and lighting conditions for a map. Separate the ground details and everything else from that! Well, just an idea ;) The real perception of this optics from 10 to 10,000 meters must be awesome...it can then simply loop...like in a song 😉

Interesting idea. I'm not an expert, but I think it would be pretty much impossible to get the cockpit/aircraft lighting to line up... also human perceive light very differently from how cameras do it... so it might still not look right.

Yes, it's all complicated and simulating the whole thing through programming will probably take generations!

Interessante Idee.

Ah but flying some of those early morning starts with the clouds in VR - better than the rest of the mission. More please.👍👍

Besides improving their looks, which is great, I hope the improved flight model allows for significative in-cloud turbulences and convective air movement. Flying through big scary cumulus should be 'felt' not only because the lack of visual reference.
