I turned inside of him and put a burst in one of his engines and that was that. Very gratifying. Oh yeah, those 262 engines in the original Il-2 seemed to catch fire if you just looked at them the wrong way. It was all worth it though to perform disappearing acts on the planes you did line up in your sites with the quad 30mm loadout. Still can't believe something existed that had four of those things all concentrated in the nose. That would be terrifying to face in real life.

I've read that there were plans to squeeze two more into the nose (for a total of six Mk-108) and the BvP 212 (proposed replacement for the Me-262 and He-162) had provision for up to seven Mk-108. I think one of the Bf-109Z variants had provision for five Mk-108 (albeit not concentrated like in the jets)...

I can't even imagine that level of firepower concentrated in such a small space. Just grazing the trigger would be enough to make entire planes vanish.
Aapje Posted November 13, 2024 Posted November 13, 2024 The more firepower, the less time on target you need. The moment where the plane is flying directly at the target is when it is easiest for the bomber gunners to shoot the fighter.
