Victory Marks on WWI Planes?

Recommended Posts

I've read several things online that have stated victory markings on aircraft first occurred during WWI but I can't find any sources to confirm this or photos to reference. I'm wondering how either or both sides marked their victories or if they did? Are there any photos you have seen that I can reference on how they denoted the victories and where they put them on their planes? Also good sources for reference photos that you guys use when making skins.

Interesting question. If I find anything I'll let you know.

I haven't either. Of course, there may be a one-or-two-off example of this, but they'd be the overwhelming minority. I have literally multiple thousands of WW1 photos and can't recall ever seeing victory markings. (Watch, now I'll run across one 😂.)

The only one I have seen is this:

Albatros D.V Jasta 41, Walte Kypke (on left). Note victories painted on fuselage.

They could be referencing another type of conquest.

She's not fat, she's just big. She's proud to be the last person to sing at the opera performance, ya know!
