The last two points make sense, but I dont know why they would think it's sufficient when the 40's report said otherwise, and seeing as how they did get rolled over. I'd imagine if someone consciously chose those planes over the B20+ ones, he would have ended up in a Gulag. Or they could have both been used, right now it looks like they only have evidence for the UBS/ShVAK, but nothing saying the B20+ wasn't used. So it's possible they did use the B20+, and the evidence is lost/hasn't been found yet.

Perhaps a few old specification documents taken out of context and then endlessly repeated? Probably because it was sufficient, they had plenty of supplies, and the fighter was an interim stop-gap design until jet production increased? It does make me wonder how widespread the B20 was though! Only a few La-7 and a few Il-10 seem to have carried the B-20 (it seems most carried ShVAK and UB). It also looks like the La-9/La-11 carried the NS-23... perhaps the 20mm version of the UBS wasn't nearly as widespread as we thought! My guess is that it's like the erroneous information out there about other planes, like the Tempest, i.e., that it carried rockets during WWII, it had a higher ammo count than what we've given it, etc. Bad information dies hard sometimes. 🙂 And yes, if there was one thing the USSR had in surplus after WWII, it was armaments. That's why Soviet and North Korean infantry for example were largely (if not exclusively) armed with weapons developed and built in the USSR during WWII. 1 hour ago, EAF19_Marsh said: You know very well that, compared to just about any other obvious pre-1960s ‘sim-able’ scenarios, Korea - historically - has very little of actual interest. Bomb tree. Bomb bush. Bomb tree. Bomb bridge. No enemy resistance seen. You can MP the shizzle out of it, but it was basically a 1950s WW1 without the interest or glamour. Sorry, but I'm going to respectfully disagree. I've been reading a lot about the Korean air war, and there was plenty of both air-to-air and air-to-ground action that was hazardous to both sides. Many pilots - especially those who had also flown in WWII - remarked that the anti-aircraft cover over North Korea was as deadly or worse than over Germany in 1944-45. 1 hour ago, EAF19_Marsh said: I expect they will do a good job and I will likely buy it, but frankly that video looked like Kuban with a different Yak skin. That's just a test map, not what will ship with the game. 3
[CPT]Crunch Posted November 6, 2024 Posted November 6, 2024 Have fun trying to catch my P-80 after I've smoked your ground targets with little ability to wreck mine, don't get sleepy you'll need to watch your back. Looks like some fun times ahead, but not so much for a Yak.
