Patricks Posted October 30, 2024 Posted October 30, 2024 Would be great, as would making it native to IL-2 FB instead of using hacks (which may or may not work in the future)! 1 2
86Cheese Posted October 31, 2024 Posted October 31, 2024 Not sure I'd consider a .dll swap a hack, but I agree, it would be nice to just not need to so that. Especially considering it's basically a necessity for Meta users. Obviously not something this team has any control over, but it also be nice if steam would allow to just run vr games via OpenXR without steamvr and compatability layers that don't always work very well.
YoYo Posted November 1, 2024 Posted November 1, 2024 +1, I fly with OpenXR (but using Open Composite).
1PL-Husar-1Esk Posted November 1, 2024 Posted November 1, 2024 I don't believe that modern CFS would be released without native support for OpenXR.
Aapje Posted November 1, 2024 Posted November 1, 2024 I think that it is going to be increasingly important. All it takes for one headset to come out at a relatively affordable price with eye tracking, for quad view foveated rendering to become really important. And that pretty much requires OpenXR.

Yes, "hack" is a pretty generic term. But when the user is depending on a GitHub source to make a game work, and the GitHub source is not a flight-sim orientated group anymore (from what I was told, could be wrong), the future of IL-2 OpenXR support becomes questionable. Surely the IL-2 team could come up with something similar and include it in the simulator, tested with each update. Even BMS Falcon has a checkbox for a choice to run in OpenXR or SteamVR in their latest version..

So far we asked questions but we didn't get answers, I suppose we need to wait for DD on that subject. For me that is more important than history of a Yak about which I could read or watch documentary.

Sgt_Joch Posted November 14, 2024 Posted November 14, 2024 Well a multi-thread program and Open XR seem like a baseline prerequisite for any new flight sim. I have moved completely to DCS, not because I think it is a better game, I still think IL2 is a more complete gaming experience, but VR performance in DCS just blow away IL2 BOS. just my 2 cents…

Pimax crystal, eye tracking and quad view FR. The difference it makes to DCS is phenomenal. Detail settings that would drag mu 4090 and 14900k into a choppy 30 FPS running at 72 FPS without a problem (except over Guam...that's the map where frame rates go to die)... 1
