flugkapitan Posted October 29, 2024 Posted October 29, 2024 Greetings! I have a new PC and need to install Great Battles on it. As per the FAQ, I tried copying the IL2 folder from my old computer to the new one, but the sim will not play correctly. The problem is that in the sim my Joystick and Rudder pedals have no effect, although they are present in the assignments screen. My Joystick/Rudder pedals are working in the new install of MSFS 2020 on the new computer. If I download the installer from the store and run it, will it install all the collector planes, etc that I've purchased? Regards, Scott
Aapje Posted October 29, 2024 Posted October 29, 2024 (edited) Your new PC will assign new device IDs to your controllers, which is probably the issue. Go to: IL-2 Sturmovik Great Battles\data\input Then rename the devices.txt file to devices.txt.old or so. Then start up the sim. This might be enough, but it is possible that this makes the ordering of the controllers change and joy0 is now recognized as joy1 or such. In that case, open both the new devices.txt and devices.txt.old, and fix the numbers at the beginning. For example, this is my file: configId,guid, model| 2,%2209bf0670-1065-11ef-0000545345440280%22,MFG%20Crosswind%20V2%2F3| 1,%227f6a90b0-741c-11ed-0000545345440280%22,TWCS%20Throttle| 0,%22e172ce90-741b-11ed-0000545345440180%22,VKBsim%20Gladiator%20NXT%20R The numbers at the beginning define what is joy0, joy1, joy2, etc. So you need to ensure that the ordering matches your old devices.txt file. PS. Reinstalling would also work and would install what you've purchased, but you'd have to rebind your controllers bindings. Edited October 29, 2024 by Aapje
flugkapitan Posted October 29, 2024 Author Posted October 29, 2024 Thank you for that! I'll give the renaming a try. Regards, Scott
flugkapitan Posted October 29, 2024 Author Posted October 29, 2024 (edited) Hi, Been messing around with those device text files. No luck. When the sim builds the new device file, there are only 2 entries (0 and 1) instead of 0,1,2,3, in the file from the other computer. Update: After messing around some more, by putting my old values in the file, when the sim loads it give 4 input devices to choose from. After the last try, the couple I selected, I do have full flight control movement and the files shows entries 0 though 1, but the hat stick on my Thrustmaster A320 stick doesn't pan views like it used to. It might be easier to just uninstall, download and start fresh. Regards, Scott Edited October 30, 2024 by flugkapitan Additional Info
ACC_Bobo Posted October 31, 2024 Posted October 31, 2024 Start fresh, it doesn't take long and it will run great. Just copy your old config and input files/folders to the new install, and any skins you want to keep. Good luck!
flugkapitan Posted October 31, 2024 Author Posted October 31, 2024 Thanks, Fresh install last night and it is running great! Regards, Scott 2
