Key and JS button sensitivity adjustment and key combinations with a modifier key.

Is there a way to adjust/modify the sensitivity of key/JS button presses so it doesn't jump back and forth what I am trying to set for a range .

An example is setting the range for the K-14 gun sight.

I know the proper method for using this sight is to have the range set to minimum to start, select the wingspan of a target you are attacking then adjusting the gun sight range to match the target's wingspan.

Before takeoff I try to set the wingspan for the most common aircraft flown by the other team on the map and then the range for my convergence settings in case a snap shot presents itself.  After that I adjust the range in and out to match the wingspan.

The problem is that when I am initially setting the range I can't tweak it in easily.  Each button press causes the range to jump two or three yards past my range goal.  It takes several attempts to get it on my chosen range.

Is there some setting in the config file to adjust the sensitivity of a key press or button push?

I also have noticed that  when using a key modifier like shift or control as a modifier key it has to be pressed and held first then and only then the key for the function.

I have found that if I depress for example shift + L simultaneously to turn on landing lights the cockpit lighting also changes.  If I depress just the L key only the cockpit lights change.  If I hold down shift then press the L key only the landing lights operate.  This same issue occurs with connecting the turbo super charger and throttle in the P-47.  More concerning is the weapons salvo.  If I do not hold down the Windows key modifier before setting pressing the B or R key the bombs will drop and the rockets launch like I never pressed the Windows key.

Anyone else run into this. This causes havoc for the Voice Attack program where it recognizes the combination of keys, but the game executes  the command like the modifier was never pressed.  So I don't use Voice Attack for any weapon key or lighting (landing, navigation or recognition) commands anymore.  I have no issues in other games or apps with multiple combination keys, only Great Battles.

Anyone else notice this issue and have a fix or is this the way the game is designed?

Thanks in advance.

Sam issue with elevator trim on joystick buttons, when pressed once sometimes techno chat  says it changed by 2% or 4% sometimes by  6 % ...

Yes that is an even better example of the key/button presses for control surface trim.

Button presses are never going to be as accurate for this sort of thing compared to an analog input, unless you use some sort of software that shortens the amount of time a keypress is held down.

Not as currently coded/configured in this game so the question becomes why not?

Why are they not coded to change in increments of one per button/key push unless held down just like when typing so you can fine tune your setting?

Very few people have a plethora of analog sliders and/or wheels at there disposal for use with a PC simulator?

I know you have nothing to do with this, but this just seem ludicrous that this can't be refined.  I have flown various PC flight sims since back in the days starting with Air Warrior for Windows in the early '90's with W95 up thru today and I don't recall key/button pushes not being in increments of one unless held down.

But I got my answer sort of so I should thank you for that.   So we are stuck with it and its frustration.

Still doesn't explain having to hold down the modifier key before pressing  the second key instead of being able to press them simultaneously to operate a light, ordinance etc.  If pressed at the same time either two functions happen at the same time or the modifier key is ignored and bombs dropped or rockets fired.

I wish I had a different answer but the reality is the GUI code is based on very old tech that simply isn't used anymore for game development and so it's very hard to try to find anyone who is capable of or wants to work on it. That's why it's being rewritten for Korea.

Like I said, there are ways around this sort of thing with third party software like JoyToKey.

First I was not shooting the messenger.  I appreciate the explanation.

Unfortunately I won't be experiencing/participating in the rewritten GUI of Korea, being a Jet Jockey isn't my cup of tea even with some prop planes included.  I'll be moving on to the new Flight Sim due out in December whose content is where my interest really lies as it did in IL-2 1946.

Unfortunately I can only say that Luke is right.

Some things can be done within the ingame configurations.

But a lot of them can't...

But I'ld really suggest using 'Joystick Gremlin' instead of 'JoyToKey'

Both of them can help a lot when trying to realize the things that were not realized by the devs.

Both of them can be used free (even if 'JoyTokey' has the option to buy a license what I did)

But when it comes to the details 'Joystick Gremlin' gives much more options.

Yes, it is much more difficult so set everything up that you want.

And yes, I'm still struggelling with some functions I want to add (due to not implemented inGame) and I don't get them work as they should.

One of these tools is a 'must have' if you need to assign functions to your joystick, that are not possible inGame.

Which one depends on 'what you need'

In my view, 'JoyToKey' is a great tool for adding 'basics' functions and with 'Joystick Gremlin' you can add even more.

And very important:

In case you want to map something to a 'virtual' Joystick (I did!)

you also need vJoy (Freeware too)

Mapping and sufficient number of buttons to map is not a problem.  I have more than an ample number of buttons to assign.

CH Fighter Stick USB; CH Pro Throttle USB & CH Multi Function Panel

Some of the key/button presses do not have precise reactions:  trim tabs, prop rpm, range adjustment of the K-14, combination of keys etc. which is the problem and inherent in the UI as what was explained to me so I just have to live with the limitations unfortunately.  It won't ever get addressed because they are already heavily involved in the next project.

I just flew IL-2 1946 for the first time today in more than a year.  The same functions assigned to the buttons or keys in 1946 is much more precise than in Great Battles.
