Loading multiplayer mission sometimes crashes to desktop.

I am running into a problem lately. I am not fluent in IL-2 Mission Editor, and I am not a mission maker. I have, however had success in the past editing multiplayer missions to create practice missions for myself and my squadron. Typically I will just move an airfield close to an objective, with airspawns and then host the multiplayer dogfight mission locally.

Lately however, I have been getting crashes to desktop as I try to open these edited multiplayer missions or even just open their folder in the dogfight server available missions window. Sometimes the missions will open and be playable but then then sometimes the same mission will crash the game to the desktop as I try to add them to my server rotation.  There seems to be some issue either with the file names or the mission names or the database IL-2 uses for available missions. I have tried deleting the cttreecache.eng, mttreecache.eng and ttreecache.eng files and also resetting the interface settings, which seemed to help at first but the issue has returned.

Any insight / help would be appreciated.

These missions are crashing when you play them on your server or when you open them in the mission editor? It sounds like the mission crashes when you play them on your server.

Sometimes, skin names - especially if assigned to a particular plane in the mission editor - can cause the mission to crash. Make sure to use only alphanumeric characters when naming skins, and I recommend not using custom skins when assigning a skin to a particular plane. Whether it's ai or player driven, it should only be using a 1C skin.

Another issue could be related to tactical codes. Do not assign any tactical codes to players or ai planes, vehicles, or ships. This seems to crash the mission, in my experience.

Lastly, make sure durability values aren't wild. Between 500 and 50,000 is okay. The industrial buildings are defaulted to 25,000, and a tank is roughly between 8,000 and 20,000 - for reference. Values go in 100s, so 500, 600, 700, etc, etc. If you have a value like 603, then that could be a problem. Also, 0 durability value is a problem.

Let me know if that helps; good luck!

Thanks for your suggestions, Sketch. I think the issue has something to do with the either the language files or the .list file or the .Mission file which are generated when I resave the edited mission.

If I delete everything in the mission folder except the .msnbin file - it loads and runs properly, but without the mission description etc.

If I leave the .eng file in the mission folder - it also works, but the mission description is restored.

So, I have a workaround but I am still puzzled as to why this would be happening as I've never encountered this problem before.

I will experiment some more to try to figure out exactly which files are causing the crash.
