Mysticpuma Posted October 18, 2024 Posted October 18, 2024 As it stands, it appears the main stumbling block for progress is VR. Without VR the next installment is currently locked down and unreleasable. One thing is clear from the beta testing forums, progress, testing and results are minimal and due to this lack of data, progress is painfully slow. With that in mind, with such a large variety of headsets, such a large variety of hardware attached to the that VR equipment, the chances are if TFS release a VR update, there will be incompatibility with some equipment. Locking the VR beta away, with so few active testers is likely delaying progress even more, so with that in mind, would an Open beta be a positive or negative step for the team and secondly, would an open beta stimulate the community (especially the VR players) to come back and get involved or would it have a negative impact? My opinion is, anything that gets discussion and involvement happening has to be a positive? 5
OBT-Lionel Posted October 18, 2024 Posted October 18, 2024 I guess if TFS was short of VR testers, they would have made the effort to get more a long time ago. 1

Given the OP is a member of the beta group, pretty switched on as to what is occuring and a regular attendee of the "closed access" forums various Im more persuaded by his arguments than yours at this. Respectfully (and thats not a sarky respectfully - its meant). The number of active VR testers curently is around 12 from what Im told by both the OP in this forum and by others in private. I dont see that as being a sufficent number to chew on the problems given the problems that there are. I dont see how TFS have anything to loose by opening it up to those who may not wish to jump through a few hoops or those who might just be vaguely interested but may have some considerable VR experience. As far as I can tell sorting VR is like nailing jelly to a cat. Im also aware that there are a good few VR user with near Rainman levels of insight and committment to problem solving and testing. Id go further at this point, given the empty servers and steam charts, and gift Blitz for a period of time as well as granting Beta access. The issues at this stage are not DWT specificso surely could be tested with just the base title. Doing that might not only help find a few more active players but also someone with a spark of an idea, a broader range of set up and potentially some additional member to TFS.
OBT-Lionel Posted October 18, 2024 Posted October 18, 2024 Boo, I regularly read this forum and everything you write there. I think that no matter what TFS does, in your eyes nothing will ever be good. 1

I just signed up; I'm just waiting for the e-mail response at this point... hoping it comes soon.

Regardless, good luck with your venture and I hope you are able to get stuck it in a meaningful way.

In my view having more of the same crash logs isn't going to speed up the process. An open beta could create more of a management headache than it solves, plus it appears a general issue and not specific to headsets, I would wait until that issue is resolved. Now personally I enjoy Cliffs in VR enough to think that there are others who would too, so it seems a shame to deny that, however, whilst crashes exist the potential for frustration may put people off, never to try again.
