Nexusmods

I noticed that the mods/campaigns/etc for GB are spread out over this forum and we even have special threads to provide an overview of what mods and what campaigns exist.

I was wondering why people are not using Nexusmods, which is a site dedicated to hosting mods. The advantage of Nexusmods would be:

  • You can show an overview of all mods/campaigns/skins for the game
  • We can have them create nice categories to make searching even easier
  • It's much more accessible than having to scour a forum for the mods/campaigns
  • Less chance of mods no longer being available than if people host the files on their dropbox or something like that
  • We can see how popular each mod is by downloads and upvotes
  • Authors can enable donations and 100% of the donation goes to the author
  • We can probably use the Vortex mod manager, since the only current mod on the site for GB is a mod to add support for Vortex. So then we can just look up a mod in the Vortex mod manager and directly install it into the game. Vortex also handles updates, so you can easily see that there is an updated version of the mod and install it.

The Nexusmods rules do forbid Axis WW 2 content, but I asked them, and this is really intended for people who add that sort of stuff to games that don't yet have that content. They are fine with such content if that is already part of the game. Of course, uploading swastika skins is probably not allowed there either.

If people think that this is a good idea, I could put some effort into uploading existing mods to Nexusmods (either ask the author to do it themselves or do it myself with permission). And then any new Korea mods could go directly into Nexusmods.

I'd rather see more support go to a site like Mission 4 Today, which is dedicated to the air combat hobby, than to Nexusmods.

They are missing a lot of features compared to Nexusmods, and also don't seem very popular, even here. So I rather put my weight behind something that offers so much functionality that people may actually use it.

For sure Nexusus is better because is popular and modern, choosing M4T would be bad decision  because is obsolete and nobody ( not literally) knows about it.

Nexus is just another repository, You have to still install Vortex on your system for auto updates and that takes up too much space, not to mention the file structure of Vortex outside of BoX when compared against Haluter's or even JSGME.

The whole idea of Haluter's was to centralize the skins in one place and yet there's even opposition to this.

JSGME

This is mod enabler not browser and skins are skins, technically mods but you know it's something different. Finding a mod in Nexus is easy and all dependentcy also.

True, but at its heart, Vortex is also a mod enabler, be it, it also has many other functions.

Just as easy to find Skin/s (Mod) on Haluter's too, and who's to say that maybe one day Haluter's could be updated to the likes of a Nexusmod.

Look at the end of the day, if you like Nexusmod.... all the power to you 👍

Nexus also had a major data breach.
