signalnorths Posted October 15, 2024 Posted October 15, 2024 Absolute frustration here at the moment! I'm new to the Editor so I'm probably doing something (or not doing something simple) but when I 'group' planes ensuring beforehand that say, they are all flying at 3000m and that 'In air' is ticked on them all ,when I group them they suddenly change their altitude to something just in double figures, which cant at that point be amended. What am I doing wrong please? I'm hoping that some kind soul will put me right here. Also, and this may or not be connected of course, what is the purpose please of the 'enabled' tick box?
Jaegermeister Posted October 15, 2024 Posted October 15, 2024 If the altitude can't be changed, they are not "in air". Check that again. If "enabled" is checked, the vehicle or plane is active when the mission begins. It cannot then be deactivated but it can be deleted. These are extremely basic functions and you should probably take a closer look at the Mission Editor manual located here.
signalnorths Posted October 15, 2024 Author Posted October 15, 2024 Thanks for the reply. The 'in air' is very much checked ! The altitude can be changed up the point I press 'Group' after which the spurious low altitude introduces itself and cannot be changed .
Jaegermeister Posted October 16, 2024 Posted October 16, 2024 I may not understand what you mean by "pressing group" in that case. Do you mean selecting all the planes, right mouse clicking and selecting "Group Objects"? Grouping planes together does not change the advanced properties of those planes that I am aware of. You would have to open the group and change them individually at that point.
signalnorths Posted October 19, 2024 Author Posted October 19, 2024 My mistake , after testing, in reality they don't change altitude, they just show the wrong altitude in the input box. Thanks for all your replies.

Maybe I did not understand your issue. Nevertheless here some additional elements that may help. When you set altitude to objects that have the Y axis modifiable like planes and waypoints then it works as follows: You set up the altitude in the input box of the corresponding object. If you select again that object the altitude that it will show is the one you have set and it should not be different. If you group say multiple planes with the same or different altitudes (no difference) then you will have a Group Icon which altitude will be your ground surface altitude at the place where the icon is. If you move your group by moving the Group Icon the altitude in the Group Icon parameters box will change depending on the terrain altitude but it will have no impact on the altitudes of each plane that is in a group. This is true in all cases with Groups. If you want to have many planes set at the same altitude, then you can select the ones you want to act upon and you will get a "multiple" parameter input box. If you set an altitude then all the planes will get the same altitude and they will show it correctly in their parameter input box. For planes that can be In Air or not the difference will happen when the mission is running. If they are not in air then they will be set automatically on the ground. In the editor they will always show the altitude you set initially. Now if your planes are Grouped two thing you can do with altitudes. If you select the Group Icon containing various objects that have their altitude modifiable, then if you click the top left button of the editor that sets the ground level altitude then all the objects in the group will have their altitude changed to the ground value of where they are positioned on the map. If you want to to set them all to a same altitude then you cannot do it just by clicking the ICon of the Group this won't work as the Groups Icon altitude cannot be modified. You need to set your Group as a working group to have access to the objects inside, then you can do a multiple selection and change the altitude to the desired value. This way of working is true for all the input parameters as well as the advanced parameters that you can change when you do a multiple selection of the same type of objects. The change will go across all the selected objects inside the group. Manually with the mouse you cannot select objects across many groups as it is not possible to have multiple Groups set as working groups. To have multiple objects selected across different groups use the Search and Select / Find Mission Objects editor function on the top left of the editor window. This is a very powerful tool to manage very complex and large quantities of groups / subgroups / sub-sub-groups and objects across the map.
