[80 years ago today] "• The Focke-Wulf Ta-152 has its maiden flight but crashes. A development of the Fw-190D optimized for high altitude interception in case of B-29 raids, it has been rushed and several more prototypes will crash in the coming weeks. Problems include faulty superchargers, leaking pressurized cockpits, unreliable engine cooling system, and failures of the landing gear to retract.

 

- For these and other reasons, it will not enter combat until April, 1945, with a total of 69 (including multiple prototypes) built."
