T24_Martin Posted September 29, 2024 Posted September 29, 2024 I installed the latest Pimax Play version (the one with native PimaxXR V. 1.33) and my Crystal is much smoother in IL-2. I used to run 0.82 of native resolution.. sometimes it couldn't hold the 90Hz. As soon as I had the latest Pimax Play it was butter smooth! I ramped up to 0.85 and still smooth. Of course I use OpenXR. Does anybody else realise this?
[CPT]Crunch Posted October 2, 2024 Posted October 2, 2024 (edited) After tuning the AMD CPU correctly went from .78 to .82. After the new pimax play from .82 to .92. With +1.8 vertical offsets running just shy of 4200x4200 per eye res. It will fly up to 4700x4700 at 1.0 but when it does have a stutter it's very jolting and it has one every time certain sounds play. One thing that really helped performance was grabbing the latest openvr_api.dll and popping it into the bin folder, when I did that she really started to fly. I've never experienced visuals so good and play as smooth as it is now. Was using an older version of the .dll for game stability reasons with an old opencomposite. Should mention also pushed up the Vram in the 4090 1350 Hz higher, makes the visuals shine in color and quality, textures just gorgeous. Edited October 2, 2024 by [CPT]Crunch

Is there something I missed about a performance improving operation by dropping a an opencomposite dll by hand in IL-2's bin folder? Would you have some more information on this operation perchance?
T24_Martin Posted October 4, 2024 Author Posted October 4, 2024 I just realized, that with the latest Pimax Play I could ramp up the pixel density. As [CPT]Crunch suggested, I also grabbed the latest openvr DLL. I always did this by hand and never used open composite. Indeed I now went from 0.82 to 0.9 max pixel density in the Pimax Crystal and all is butter smooth. So there must have been some changes that increased performance significantly.

The latest version works better with Play on my system. Opencomposite itself was a mess with many IL-2 users experiencing issues with later versions. I was one of them and had to run an old version which required an older .dll simply to get a game that would run in OpenXR. No big mystery. Take away, IL-2 doesn't have inbuilt native OpenXR game support, you need a modified version of the openvr_api.dll to get your openXR capable set to see the game. There's dozens of versions of that file, they can't all be equal, Pimax Play seems to like the newest version on my system, which to me was previously unusable with opencomposite itself. If your using an older version and can now ditch opencomposite itsef, you can update the .dll to the latest one and gain whatever benefits they added to it.

dryheat94 Posted October 5, 2024 Posted October 5, 2024 (edited) If you'd like to try an earlier .dll version that has worked well for many of us, you can find it here. I've stuck with this one as it works well for my Q3. https://opencomposite.znix.xyz/builds/view_build?commit=43e551a4506880ab1a71b8b9fec2fd7fbb27372f Scroll to bottom of page to find it.
