jg123410 Posted September 26, 2024 Posted September 26, 2024 HI folks. I searched so if this was answered and I missed it, my apologies. I would like to have two installs of IL2 GB on my laptop. One will be my test area for mission making, the other will be my primary install. I want to make sure they are always separate. The two may not always be in sync with the latest patches. How to I launch the test install? -- Is there an exe I can just click on? Background: I purchased IL2 BOS on Steam years ago. I have my account with 1CGS linked to Steam so I can buy directly from them, but when I click to run IL2 GB, it seems to always need to use Steam, even if offline, to verify and launch the game. Thanks - JG123410.
JFS4_Eisbaer Posted September 29, 2024 Posted September 29, 2024 You can also start the game via the Il-2 “restarter exe”. But then you only have access to the DLC purchased via 1CGS. Those purchased via Steam are not recognized. A double installation of the game is probably only possible if you use different hard disks.
jg123410 Posted September 30, 2024 Author Posted September 30, 2024 Thanks JFS4_Eisbaer, I thought there might be something more involved than what I was thinking. I appreciate the information. Cheers - JG123410
czech693 Posted October 2, 2024 Posted October 2, 2024 Start with the last part, first. What Launcher.exe or IL2.exe button are you using to start the sim? If it's the same one that you were using when you used Steam, then it's sending you to Steam. Go into your Programs (x86) and find IL2. Use the Launcher or Start .exe's from there. I converted from Steam to direct purchase some time back and it works fine. Why do you need two full installs of IL2? Using unGTP you can unpack the GTP files into a "null" folder in your main sim folder (same folder that has "data"). Those folders in "null" will mirror the in game folders that are in GTP format. Copy whatever folders from "null" that you are planning on messying around in to the main sim folder (usually where "data" folder is located). You can play around with altering some data in those folders and see what happens. If you mess one up you can re-copy it from the "null" folder. (All this is based on you having enough storage for more than one copy of the data). 1
jg123410 Posted October 4, 2024 Author Posted October 4, 2024 Thanks czech693, I didn't realize the point about unGTP. That sounds like what I need just as a back. Thanks.
czech693 Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 Here's what my "null" folder location looks like:
