JG1 is proud to announce Flanders in Flames MMXXIV the Silver Anniversary edition!

Flanders in Flames was first created in October 1999 by members of JG1 for Red Baron 3D, and is one of the longest-running WW1 dead-is-dead tournaments.

This campaign will cover the closing period of the Somme offensive, October – November 1916. It will be a full Dead-is-Dead event which means that if you are killed or captured you can no longer participate as a pilot for the remainder of that particular mission of the day. You can continue to participate as a gunner in a two seat aircraft.

For pilots to practice and gain familiarity with the map, the mission will be up on the server all day on Tuesdays starting on 24 September, and JG1 will host open-house practices on Tuesdays at 2100 EDT (= Wednesdays 0100 GMT).  Please visit us on our Discord server: https://discord.gg/SM6Uk5XuJ2

The tournament will run on Saturdays at 1400 EDT (= 1800 GMT), from 19 October to 9 November, with a dry run on 12 October.

Details such as Rules and the particulars regarding Discord meeting and comms will be forthcoming. Stay tuned!

This is awesome news!! FiF was the first multiplayer tournament I participated in back in ROF and I have awesome memories of it over the years. So excited to hear it's coming back! 😃

As per the registrations to date, Oct. 7, 2024 here are the teams that I've come up with based on your declared availability on Week 1 and known (by me) your affiliations. I expect that this may have to be adjusted as more (hopefully) register and due to the ever present uncertainty factor.

Another BTW...

Sides will flip on week 3. Red will start on week 1 as Entente, Blue as Central and will continue the same on week 2. Weeks 3 & 4 will be: Red=Central, Blue=Entente.

We had really good registration with about 66 players registering and fairly balanced sides for each week. AFAIK most everyone had a good time. We would really like to have people post their opinions / experience / recommendations. A big thank you to all participants and to Kliegmann for the mission design.

I am very grateful for the organization of the event. We really participated in the tournament with the spirit of FIF, which we all remember from the ROF times. Of course, there were technical difficulties and errors. To sum up, I would still recommend returning the mission system and AAA of the original version - more tasks, less AAA. Considering the time costs, it would be possible to involve the community more in the development of templates, and the organizers could pay more attention to game design.
rgr!

Thanks to the whole JG1 and Ad Astra team for helping to make this a reality. Lovely to see a staple of the WWI sim flying community return in such a big way!

(The flying was a lot of fun, too. :) Cheers to blue and red team commanders and pilots. You guys left it all on the table.)

Thanks for organising this event every year guys - its always a highlight! Just wish we had more organised events like this!

Btw, has anyone filed a bug report for the flak issue which we all seemed to be experiencing? i.e crazy accurate flak in MP, even at high altitude?
