You can disable automatic updates on Windows 11, although it requires knowing what to do. Then the G2 will remain working indefinitely on that increasingly unsafe version of Windows. You can also keep running Windows 10, but after October 14, 2025, you will no longer be getting updates, so that is then no longer secure. So option 1 - Keeping W10, means that you are OK until October 14, 2025. But after that, you are running an unsafe system and should consider moving on, although you can take the risk of getting hacked. Or option 2 - going to W11 and stopping automatic updates, installing security updates manually, but not 24H2, means that you probably OK until September/October 2024 or so, whenever 24H2 is released. But after that, you are running an unsafe system and the same goes for running W10 without security updates anymore.

In case I keep w10 and my PC only runs : il2 gb sturmovik, necksafer, simshaker, simtools, simracing studio, openxr toolkit and their updates and nothing else nor internet surfing am I safe after October 14, 2025?
firdimigdi Posted September 5, 2024 Posted September 5, 2024 (edited) This should help you decide: Note: the performance difference on Intel CPUs is smaller. > [with win10] am I safe after October 14, 2025? Unknown but most likely yes. This could change if a vulnerability in win10 is found after then. Edited September 5, 2024 by firdimigdi 1
Sgt_Joch Posted September 18, 2024 Posted September 18, 2024 (edited) Well in theory if you are on Win 11 and stick with 23H2, you should be able to have WMR available until November 2026 according to Microsoft. 24H2 is optional so you will not be forced to update right away. Even after 24H2 comes out, you will continue to receive security updates for 23H2 until eventually Microsoft forces you to upgrade to 24H2 and you are out of luck. MS is only forcing users with only 21H2/22H2 to upgrade now, so the G2 may be active for a long time. I have a G2 now which works well and am hoping to get a few years use out of it yet. The big problem will be if you have to reinstall Win10/11. https://www.theregister.com/2024/09/11/microsoft_23h2_forced_update/#:~:text=Microsoft has warned that a,editions of Windows 11 22H2.
