Dukethejuke Posted September 3, 2024 Posted September 3, 2024 I have a VKB gunfighter joystick. I have added a few pieces to my system for the "other" flightsim. I unplug these added items before I use IL2. I have gotten the screen asking about new hardware and the key binding which I click no. But for some reason the game does not recognize the joystick at all. I have played IL2 with no problems unplugging new hardware. I go into Keys and it still shows the bindings but nothing , the mouse will not even move i need to hit escape. I go into devices and it shows up as 9 which is right. Works fine in the "OTHER" sim. Thanks for suggestions
[CPT]Crunch Posted September 3, 2024 Posted September 3, 2024 Bad idea to unplug and plug devices, think there's still a limit in devices the game can recognize, nine might be a bit over.
Dukethejuke Posted September 3, 2024 Author Posted September 3, 2024 I have done it many times, never went above max buttons even before they went to 120.
cardboard_killer Posted September 4, 2024 Posted September 4, 2024 It's a question of max devices, not buttons. I believe the number is 8. However, if you've done it many times, that can't be the problem. 1
SYN_Mugue Posted September 4, 2024 Posted September 4, 2024 I avoid this exact problem by doing the following when switching my control setup from DCS to Il2. 1)Turn off your PC 2) Plug each of your devices you're using for IL2 into the exact same USB port every time. 3)Reboot!!!! Always Reboot after making changes before launching Il2. If done correctly, Windows scans your devices on startup and puts the controls in the same order that Il2 is expecting. Otherwise things start going sideways. I don't think hot swapping is supported in Il2 because Windows reorders your devices and then IL2 can't find it anymore.(Well it can find it but it's number has changed (or something) and the game gets confused.) It's as if DCS uses individual device ID's so it doesn't care witch port or how many devices. While Il2 uses just the order and port of the devices as they are plugged in, and can only understand the first 8 controllers added.(I'm sure that isn't technically correct, I'm just a lowly PC user not a programmer, but maybe you get the idea?) Hope this helps. Cheers, M.
