1Sascha Posted September 1, 2024 Posted September 1, 2024 Outside of the excellent "internal" user-benchmark created on this very forum, I wonder what sort of results from various HW-reviewers I should pay the most attention to. Since I only have a 1440p monitor and I don't plan on going 4K anytime soon, I'm basically looking for a GPU that will allow me to run my Reverb G2 closer to its native resolution while being able to, maybe, also raise visual fidelity in-game a bit, too. Which, I guess, means that "4K with low to medium details"-results in reviews/comparison tests would be most interesting? And yes: I don't look at absolute results in terms of FPS, as these are all non-VR results for vastly different (and more modern) games and none of the reviewers I'm aware of are using IL-2 VR in any of their benchmarking. 😄 I do feel however that their results can still give an idea of different cards' relative performance. Since I'm not about to dish out four figures for a GPU, and I don't want to switch to AMD, I'm currently looking at either the 4070 Super or the 4070 Ti Super - but I do wonder if even the Ti Super would be enough to get close to native res. Especially since I mostly play offline which seems to have its own unique set of problems that aren't necessarily related to GPU performance... S.
Aapje Posted September 1, 2024 Posted September 1, 2024 What do you have now? It's hard to give advice when we don't know what gains you would have. My generic advice would be to wait for next gen or else go for the 4070 Super, given how close next gen is.

Yeah, well... that was on purpose, since folks will probably call me insane. I'm on an RTX 4070 which, as it turns out, is quite a lot slower than the 4070 Super. Since I'm fairly confident I can get a decent price for my existing card (GB Gaming OC with a ludicrously oversized cooler 😄 ), it wouldn't be such a huge investment. Plus selling it now, before 50xx is even announced, should yield more money, I reckon. Waiting for next gen had crossed my mind, but going from past launches, that would mean I'd have to wait probably until March or April 2025 for the tier of cards I'd be interested in to launch. I've always refused to buy top tier cards, even when they weren't €/$1,700 like they are today (or the inflation adjusted equivalent of that), so no 5090 for me.. 😄 Which I'm sure will be the first one to come to market - although I find it odd that we haven't had any leaks on 50xx yet, as I would've expected them to at least launch their flagship in time for Christmas 2024. I don't really consider that 'quite a lot' or sufficient to go through all the work of selling an old card and installing a new one. 10 minutes ago, 1Sascha said: although I find it odd that we haven't had any leaks on 50xx yet There have been plenty of leaks, of varying reliability.
