FAW_Spit Posted August 18, 2024 Posted August 18, 2024 I think the success of the very first IL2 is due to the editor so easy to handle even if it was less powerfull than the great battle one. This editor was a main feature for the game longevity. All players can make sort of mission even camppaign we exchange on website. Some creator did a really good job and bring a lot to the game. In great battle editor is really powerfull but not noob friendly if we have the same feature in Korea it's enough for me but if we can have an easiest editor for young and new player it will be fine. We enjoy to tell our story with the historic background of game. We are a small squad flying IL2 since 25 year now hope to fly again 25 Year more ' maybe not as i'm near 70 y/o 7 1 1
Muddy Posted November 7, 2024 Posted November 7, 2024 Yes it needs a new Mission Editor- the one from GB is crap!! 1

From a usability point of view it's very much a tool for and by the developers. A new tool should be much simpler, ideally more like the one in DCS World which is drag and drop and fairly intuitive to set up more advanced things like triggers without trawling through massive documents. 1
IckyATLAS Posted November 23, 2024 Posted November 23, 2024 For me the GB editor is fine, but lacks some improvements in managing layers and links but it is a pretty good base. For those who master the GB editor it would be nice to have the same but improved one in Korea. Now I am speaking for myself here. My opinion is that we will never be an editor for the players and an editor for the developers. Either they give us access to their editor or we will have nothing. Developing and maintaining a simplified gamer version of the editor is much too costly and resource consuming, and not also not of real interest for the mission/campaign creators. They will quickly reach the limit and want the full editor. Those who have fun creating missions/campaigns will want to have the full editor and will also accept to invest time to master it. Those that just want to play campaigns or missions can have a kind of quick mission builder were it is more or less a kind of mission generator. Besides that there will be no more in my opinion.
=MERCS=JenkemJunkie Posted November 23, 2024 Posted November 23, 2024 (edited) Acting as a gateway drug would still be useful to expand the number of mission creators, and not every mission is going to have complex needs, so even a master of the ME could appreciate a simpler version for simpler missions. Much of the games appeal and longevity comes from user made material, so it is financially smart for 1C to try to expand the number of people making missions, and to make life easier/better for the current people working in there. I probably would never have bought the game if we had no user made content, just career/QMB. Edited November 23, 2024 by =MERCS=JenkemJunkie 1
Zooropa_Fly Posted November 23, 2024 Posted November 23, 2024 I'd hope they clean it up a bit, rather than just copy / paste the existing one as they did RoF to GB. Things like having to Object Link every WP back to the object - makes a hell of a visual mess. Things like formation commands not working with spawned objects etc. And ME stability would be nice - takes up enough time as it is without having to put up with persistent crashes. I think it's time the ME was presented as a more user-friendly application, rather than the fiddly developer tool it's been up to now. I'm not calling for something 'simple' to use, but it really needs tidied up a bit operationally. 2 1

I do see some crap here, some real doq-squeeze if you will...but it's not the editor. The GB editor is fantastic once you get to know it. It's main flaw is that it's unstable, which wastes my damn time (which is the primary reason I left it behind for DCS) and that it's missing some vital functionality (like allowing a flight to attach to/follow another flight) but I wouldn't trade it's power for something easier to use by a noob. Put some time in, then you won't be a "noob" anymore. Having a visual reference to what logic is attached to other logic is something that you miss when you don't have it anymore...trust me. Being able to copy and paste logic groups...another thing you miss. Ask me how I know. One strength of the editor, and of GB in general is that once you lay down logic and it works, it stays working for the most part. That isn't the case everywhere. 13 hours ago, =MERCS=JenkemJunkie said: so even a master of the ME could appreciate a simpler version for simpler missions. jollyjack Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 I don't want to revoke our old dispute LoL , but with now 5.504 i had 3 crashes without the ole manifest trick, and none with it running on my 4k Acer Predator monitor: 1

Main reason I think it would be good for the game would be as a gateway drug to the full ME, or for people who would never want to mess with the full ME under any circumstance because it's about as fun as tongue cleaning toilets. 1
