SCG_Baryonyx Posted August 12, 2024 Posted August 12, 2024 (edited) Hello fellow tankers, I would like to present something to you. For a little while I had this idea floating in my head: What if you could make a camouflage from the colors that you find in the game? Or even from a screenshot? Then you should be much harder to spot! And a few days ago I started to develop this idea in earnest. I wanted a camouflage that will actually hide you will if you stand at the edge of a forest. So I took a screenshot of the edge of a forest. Spoiler I then converted this screenshot in GIMP to look more like a camouflage pattern. I found the effect "Waterpixels" did just what I wanted. Spoiler I then created a seamless tileable camouflage pattern from this... Spoiler ...and applied it to a tank. Spoiler And I have to say I think it works quite well. It won't make you invisible, but I think it makes you blend in a lot better. Interestingly, I found that the camouflage works best if you put yourself in a sunny spot, since if you sit in the shadows, you become too dark and get easier to spot. I made one skin for each of the four seasons in the game. For now I have only used this on Tigers but I want to apply it to all vehicles, particularly if people are enthusiastic about it. Here are screenshots of the other season skins: Spoiler And here you can test yourself to see how long it takes you to spot the tank: Spoiler This first batch of Tiger skins will soon appear on HSD so you can test them out yourself. Let me know what you think and if you want the other vehicles too. Soon available on Edited August 13, 2024 by SCG_Baryonyx 3 1 1
MajorMagee Posted August 12, 2024 Posted August 12, 2024 Brilliant! I did something similar a couple of years ago.

MajorMagee Posted August 13, 2024 Posted August 13, 2024 I use the color picker to create a pallet of colors from a Tank Crew screenshot for use in an old Photoshop plug-in, Camouflage by VanDerLee.
SCG_Neun Posted August 13, 2024 Posted August 13, 2024 Suberb idea...let's test it out in a mission Bary... 15 hours ago, MajorMagee said: Brilliant! I did something similar a couple of years ago. Oh my....that is Predator scary camo.
SCG_Neun Posted August 14, 2024 Posted August 14, 2024 Colors closer to unrendered terrain would be an interesting test as well since a majority of the highly visible blob contrast is in such circumstances. So 600 meters in brushy terrain, not as big as a concern, as 900 and out...
MajorMagee Posted August 14, 2024 Posted August 14, 2024 There are some examples of what they look like out in the open in the distance over here. The game tends to diminish the camouflage pattern details until the light and shadow effects dominate what you notice. The lighting conditions make a big difference in how the camouflage colors are rendered as well.
