No105_Swoose Posted August 11, 2024 Posted August 11, 2024 November 1st 1950 marked the beginning of an aerial counterattack that the Americans were not prepared for. These North Korean MiGs with their suspiciously competent and Russian speaking pilots would prove to be the end of many American aviators. F-86 pilots would meet the MiGs head on, embarking on one of the bloodiest, longest lasting, and most equally matched aerial battles ever fought, over a highly contested area on the Chinese border known only as “MiG Alley”. So, who came out on top? Which Cold War combination of aircraft, training and tactics was superior? Avimimus Posted August 16, 2024 Posted August 16, 2024 A nice video. Also explains why Mig-15Bis vs. F-86A would make sense for an initial release, and Mig-15 vs. F-86E would make more sense for a later war expansion. There are a couple of errors though: The Mig-17 was already flying in January 1950... so there really wasn't time for lessons from Korea to make it into the Mig-17's design. 2
