Rodolphe Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 ... Ref : The Video "Loft Shows off some GFX engine features and some vehicles" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mW_VyxGsMwA In this video, due to their shinning headlights, the Russian convoy (trucks) rolling at night can be seen from a 10 KM overhead view (33000 ft). Is there any plan to dim the light ( reduce the visibility) of vehicles equipped with "Black-out Covers" / "Notek" and give these convoys / vehicles a more realistic appearance at night ? ...

FuriousMeow Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 (edited) If there's one thing this team has been good at - it's getting their core squared away. 4 years ago I said this about RoF on a private forum: Initial impressions are that it's core is very solid. Great graphics, damage effects, bullet trajectory (and ricochets), great FM and atmospheric modeling, and the engine modeling very interesting. I hope rotaries come out soon, those are the ones I'm more interested in. 2 days later: The load times appear to have been reduced, after the first time you play. Still takes a while your first flight. Nieuport 28 and Albatros DVa added for free. Nieuport 17 will be about $8 next week. It's pretty fun, the two new planes add a little more - especially since one is a rotary and you don't have to sit on the field waiting for the engine to warm up. 1 day later: Everything about RoF is impressive, I think. Certainly things are missing, but nothing that is present leaves me with a feeling of disappointment. I've definitely done the gambit of testing this game out. MP is, well I've tried two servers and stared at trees for a minute and gave up. That part sucks donkey balls right now. Otherwise, it's fucking great. Same day: The AI is going to be like every other game's AI. No program will ever have an unpredictable AI until they get a dedicated AI processor that makes programing to it easy and the AI quick. My graphics performance is still mediocre. I'm running the game at 1600x900 on a 37" widescreen LCD TV, wish I could push the resolution higher but the 8800GT just doesn't cut it for that right now. Pretty cool though how the plane self-shadowing varies based on weather. In the middle of a rain storm there is very little to no self-shadowing, clear day and it's quite apparent. Also, the rain drops on the glasses when in cockpit streaking down then beginning to streak to the side as you take off is pretty cool. When flying in a rain squall you can see vertical streaks for the rain at some points.Clearly it's been made with the best intents to simulate air combat in WWI in every aspect. And that was early July of 2009 for RoF. The minimum at it's release is my graphics card, and it was already two years old. MP improved greatly with the release of the dedicated server module. I have no idea when that was, but since it's already developed no one has to wait for it for BoS. Edited August 1, 2013 by FuriousMeow

Rjel Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 I think realism is always the end goal. The blacked out headlights would be more realistic obviously. But then what? Would you even notice the convoy? If not what's the need to make headlights that really illuminate in the first place? Maybe an easier(?) solution would be to have the convoy turn it's lights off and on as the AI perceives danger from above growing or lessening.
Heywooood Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 knowing that the enemy is resupplying along a certain route, knowing that cover of darkness or foul weather is preferred, and having learned how to search for this traffic through repitition - thats how you find them... and since accuracy would have their lights dimmed, or in full moon or at the sound of an airplane - switched off - you wont find jimmy dick unless you are prowling down low
Rodolphe Posted August 2, 2013 Author Posted August 2, 2013 ... In Rise of Flight, surprisingly, the team has successfully re-created this wartime night convoy atmosphere. ... 1
crossfade Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 I would say that even with the covers on the lights that it would be quite easy to see the trucks in convoy as the dust clouds are being lit up by the truck behind which i think is very nice indeed
