I have that and a 1911, so I'm covered no matter what I fly.

I'm well covered too. 1911, Luger, Webley, S&W Victory, Browning High Power (Stamped with German Iron Eagles) and for more modern times Berretta M9.

I've spent most of my adult life using, employing, instructing with all types of infantry firearms, even teaching the use of many foreign weapon systems... then I see posts like this and I get very angry that I can't enjoy what has taken up a large part of my life now I'm retired... pissed off does not even describe my emotions at the moment!

Hard to imagine, seeing there was a time when His Majesty's government promoted target shooting in your country.  I feel for you Trooper.

What about the Vickers MG Collection and Research Association? You could join them and demo full-auto weapons?

I don't want to start a business, I don't want to fire blank firing weapons in displays, I don't want to fire live fire MG's in displays either... I would simply like the ability to take a weapon that I could legally own to the range and use it on a regular basis... I would like to have the ability to defend myself at home should that situation arise.

At one time in the UK that would have been possible as we had gun clubs and ranges that could be used by enthusiasts and collectors all over the country.

I saw myself using those facilities and owning my own firearms when I left the army... all that was wiped away by successive government legislation pretty quickly, and many people lost their business and livelihoods virtually overnight.

Let's be careful to not stray into politics, please.

Just setting the scene as to why I cannot continue my obvious passion for firearms, otherwise people may not know why I don't own one... I have no interest in politics whatsoever.

Sometimes politics comes after your hobby.

There's nothing political about it, unless tyranny is a political issue (it's not, it's just a bunch of suited thugs riding roughshod over the rights of the people who pay their undeserved wages).

Meanwhile, here in Japan, anyone can buy a pistol, rifle, assault rifle or whatever, so long as they live here. And it's made of plastic. Tee hee. 😄

In the UK you have to be a member of UKARA to be allowed to purchase a plastic toy gun. And it's not a simple case of signing to join, you have to jump through hoops. More hoops than Americans do to own real guns.

No, grossly incorrect. You do not need a licence to own an airsoft rifle (or Realistic Imitation Firearm). You can walk in to any airsoft store at the age of eighteen and purchase one. The UKARA is simply a database of retailers and players who register their intent for the selling of said weapons, and also participation in game sites. It's an opt-in licence to better legitimise the sport, and also mitigates somewhat should police attempt prosecution, but it isn't mandatory as a member of the public with intent of purchasing.

As much as it would be interesting to discuss and learn about how gun regulations differ in different parts of the world, and how different cultures and individuals relate to firearms differently... this obviously touches on policy and politics. So I'll have to lock this thread.
