Shoot first, ask later! If it was an ally, he canโ€™t longer complain.

If you follow that advice your aircraft (and you) will end up meeting a ban hammer...

Comms can help on an MP server. If all you are seeing is a dot, then you must be a long way out from your target.

If I have the time to observe the target, then yes, I'll use zoom to try and get a plan form view of the aircraft, but I cant usually positively ID the aircraft until quite close - unless it has some distinguishing features that are easily visible at a distance - like 2 engines, for example.

ย

If I'm ready to fight, then basically, you have to close with it and assume it's enemy until proven orherwise

Also, keep in mind that the you have to get a lot closer if you are flying in VR.ย  On a display, the dot usually become a silhouette much sooner than it does in a headset.

Most likely if it is flying your front line direction low - It's probably friendly and if it is flying your front line direction high - it's not friendly.

ย

Plan accordingly but mainly - treat all dots the same, hostile until proven otherwise. ๐Ÿ‘

The easy way out: activate the blue and red helpers ...

For the single seat fighters to start you can just focus on learning the 190/109 shapes then just shoot/don't shoot them if they're different. For the thiccer stuff, you can usually afford to take your time to ID since they're less of a threat. Then just play in a deathmatch server to get lots of quick exposure to the planes zooming around at different aspects and ranges and eventually it'll be second nature to recognize the shapes.
