Hi, RoF flight is the only game my father plays but he's been playing it for years and does not plan to stop (big fan of WWI planes)

I need to buy him a new graphics card since the old one short-circuited.

His PC specs are:

- Intel Core i7-4770 @ 3.40GHz

- 16GB RAM

- 2.5K 27" monitor

- Win 10 x64

He'd like to play RoF on high game details, preferably close to the 2560 x 1440 resolution of his monitor, so I know I need to balance out the fact RoF is 10yrs old game w/ high demand for details and resolution.

What graphics card specs would you recommend I be looking after?

Thanks!

I don't think you'll need anything too flash.

I've got an Nvidia 1070 which is pretty ancient by todays standards and RoF runs fine at 3840 x 2160.

If you want something new and to get the best value, then an AMD 6600 would fit the bill. If you want Nvidia, then you can get a 4060 or 3060. Basically, the game is so old and undemanding that even a low end card will easily cope, will have enough VRAM, etc. So you don't really need to look at specs all that much.

With any of these cards, I'd expect you to be bottlenecked by the CPU before the GPU gets used to the max, in Rise of Flight.

His system specs sound very similar to my old PC.  I upgraded the graphics a few years ago to the GTX 1050 ti.  It was adequate for ROF.   1060 or 70 might have been better, but when I purchased it there was a bit of a graphics card shortage due to covid and manufacturing shortages of chips. The other issue I faced at the time, was my power supply was not powerful enough for the higher end cards.  Certainly could have upgraded the power supply, but chose not to.  At anyrate,  be sure and check the power supply of the PC, to ensure its powerful enough for the graphics card you select.

The 1050 ti, had relatively low power consumption requirements,  and worked pretty good for RoF.

I have a 4770 with a 1070 it it that my kids play games on and it works fine. I used it for VR back in the day and it ran ok.

I moved the 10700 to a 12100 once for testing purposes and got  around a 25 fps increase.

Based on this I would say that anything more powerful than a 1070 would probably not show much of a performance increase.
