What a nice surprise!!!

The Mig-15bis looks stunning!

Dear LukeFF,

Sounds good, but.. I'm slightly confused.
In the photos on display we can see a B-29.
There were a lot of questions about why there were no four-engine planes in Great Battle and now this theater is coming out.

The questions are legitimate.
Is it the technology of the new SIM that allows the creation of four-engine planes, something that has always been said that the GB is too complex? Is it just AI or will it be flyable?

Hi!

The team, as stated, will now resume DDs and give more information as time goes on :)

Four engine planes can be done in the Great Battle engines as we speak. The problem was always time and budget allocation versus the amount of players that would be ineterested in it. (A Bomber has many cockpits and systems).

Now, what could happen in the future? We have to wait 😁

If I recall correctly, in previous updates they indicated that the B-29 will be AI only. The developers also indicated that they are developing techniques to allow an increase in the size of bomber formations (so that might be a part of it - but I'm speculating here).

P.S. I wouldn't say 'too complex', perhaps 'too resource intensive' would be better.

Great! I am so looking forward to this game! The Korean Air War was one of my main interests for many years. :salute:

This is so exciting!! It’s a new direction for the IL-2 series, and there has not been a proper Korean Air War sim on the market since 1999’s MiG Alley. Looking forward to this!

I don't know 🤔... I hope this doesn't mean that Wwii Il2 is being put aside. If so, I'd be very dissapointed 😔. Personaly I'm really not interested in Korea etc. so I guess I won't even buy it 🤷🏻‍♂️

Speaking of bombers and bigger formations it is possible this will be also incorporated in Il2 GB series? As stated above, the engine is competent to handle it.

I the case wwii Il2 is being put aside is it planned it will be offered to modders comunity as was CloD once? In my oppinion Il2 GB sereries have so much more to offer in the field of Wwii sims.

Anyway, I wish best to anybody hyped by Korea reveal, but suddenly, it isn't my case 😊 🫡

I forgot to mention the migs and other planes etc. looks fabolous. Really nice work! 🙂

Awesome news! Here's hoping there's going to be some carrier ops. The combination of early age jets and the end of the prop age would make for some incredible carrier ops.

If we get a flyable F7F I might lose my mind. That thing blasted past at an airshow when I was a kid and my child brain immediately thought "I must have that someday".

No F9F Panther, Hawker Sea Fury, A-1D Skyraider, USS Essex, or HMS Ocean. Without Carrier ops this sim is missing its lower dentures.... in other words it's lost its bite for me to buy it. For me, the Corsair is the only reason to buy this iteration of IL2. Looking forward to Combat Pilot instead.

1C needs to get over their aversion to Carrier Ops. DCS has the Mustang, Saber, Mig-15 if I want to fly those aircraft. And I hope the FMB is better than the current edition.

Its disappointing, and just mildly interesting :mda:

If you're looking at this announcement as a complete release, sure. But if you think of it the same way Battle of Stalingrad was, which was just the opening salvo to a great game series, then there's potential to see a lot of other releases. Naval Ops would be incredible, especially for being the only modern take on Korean carrier ops, but it's probably still better to start with the bigger air war over the land before moving to the naval side.

And also, while DCS has a sabre, they've got a post korea version, with no setting to fly it in.

Odd thing to latch onto straight off, but I hope whatever markings system is in this for unit lettering/aircraft numbers can be extended to include serial numbers on US aircraft at least.

Personally my maximal hope for markings is that they find a way to add automatic kill/strike markings as part of it. Would require standardization (such as kills on left under canopy with strikes on cowling) togglable for custom skins of course, same as the letters. But IMO those markings and maybe even nose art options would add endless personality to even the most basic skins in career/campaign as you progress.

You can please some of the people some of the time, but you cannot please all of the people all of the time. Mig Alley 2 is fine with me. I am simply hoping that the engine, I am assuming a revamped GB engine, will handle many more air assets at the same time than the former GB engine does. Will the AI fly the same flight model as a human player as it is in GB now? I am hoping that it will not and that more effort will be put into challenging yet realistic AI pilots. I will purchase the early access as long as I know that there will be no points system to open upgrades.

Will there be any points system to earn or open upgrades? Please say no

No.

The plan is retain both fully-functional and simplified AI planes: fighters would retain FM as detailed as player's craft, while bombers will be simplified to allow larger formations.

There isn't an aversion to carrier ops. There is the fact that it takes time and effort to get it right. In fact, the developers have expressed a desire to model carriers (on more than one occasion).

Thank you for the quick answers. You have the AI equation 50% correct. I will Pray that you at least attempt a simplified fighter AI also to totally free the sim engine up for truly large scale ground and air battles. The team has brought the AI a long way, but the AI still has a long way to go to be the top of flight sims AI.

Thanks for the new project and new technologies. Good Luck going forward.

When can we early access

Sir?????:popcorm:

How would this work? For units that are a long way from the player? What are you thinking of?

My perspective is that they need more complex AI - particularly for AI spotting. The AI sees far too well through clouds right now, and through foliage (in Tank Crew), it also is too consistent in its situational awareness... if they had something more like Petrovich it would really fix the most apparent and frustrating issues (from my perspective anyway). I don't see how making it simpler would make it better.

He may mean simplified flight model for AI fighters, so that less processing is needed to conduct the same maneuvers as with the player's flight model.

Ah, could be. The thing is, when the Il-2 series had a simplified flight model, there were constant complaints about it (the AI 'cheating' and beating the player)... I remember those days well enough.

Congrats team on the announcement!  The teaser video alone was a bit too short but after the rest of the info came out there is definitely a lot to be excited about.

I'm looking forward to flying the new set of planes!

Some new aspects that got me really excited:

  • city light halos - Will there be night lights in the buildings then?
  • uneven airfields
  • 3D bomb craters - properly take out an airfield!
  • new graphical effects and vegetation
  • translucent water - Finally real depth and water effects near the shore, rivers etc. Since there will be dams, even if you could not destroy and make it flood, would be cool if we could do a leaking damage animation of cracked dams
  • Revamped radio comms and orders system
  • skip time on the route feature
  • ability to enter and exit the cockpit, walk and swim  - I asked for this but got poo-pooed in the comments, glad the devs agree
  • 440×440 km  map (for reference Normandy was 300x340)
  • electric lines - interesting level of detail
  • functional radars
  • aircraft skin sheets that can become loose

Things I wish were different:

  • Kind of tired of the P-51, regardless of how well it fits historically. I wish it was the Douglas Skyraider isntead. The P-51 is done in BoBP, BON, DCS...
  • The terrain, roads, ocean (some screenshots) and cities seem to be very similar to GB. I'm particularly not a fan of the current maps where cities and countryside are perfectly delineated and there are no rural buildings or small tows that blend in the landscape. I also wish that crops had a bit of variety and volume, not just flat textures of different colors.
  • I want to see more smaller scale objects in the airfields, smaller decoration like clutter, toolboxes, oil spills, ladders, ropes, ordinance, spare droptanks, dust, signs, mechanics working, chairs. Things that make it feel less empty now that you can walk around outside of the aircraft.

Map details are still being finalized. What you guys have seen in this first reveal is just a hint of what's to come. Better airfield clutter is also planned.

Yes, but also remember that the game cant kill your PC and also it should work very well for VR users (too many objects = less FPS = nobody will be happy!) 😳

Of course it's not. There's still FC 4, 5, 6 & 7 to come .... and possibly 8 but that hasn't been decided yet.

I'll definitely buy it and I hope they can accelerate the timeframe so an early, very basic release could be late 2024.

The 'trailer' was pretty poor, PR speaking, and I am also a bit dubious that the VK-1 (congrats, Atlee and co, on an epically-stupid decision) would show flames behind the turbine stage under normal conditions as this is not standard for non-reheating jet engines. Maybe I am wrong.

Well it seems its engine isn't going to be revamped or improved to the level of Korea so it will get new content and die a slow death. Not terrible, but not great either.

You can see the flames do fade out after the engine starts to properly spool  up.
