I'm curious if the bombers would be AI-only? I mean the B-29 we see on the website and the Tu-2 (if there is one)? If it is possible to give some info at this moment?

More info will be forthcoming, hang in there. 🙂

The Hawker Sea Fury actually shot down a Mig in the conflict. Looks like no F9F, A-1D, Essex,or Ocean class carriers. I don't know why 1C is so afraid of Carrier ops. It will be the Achilles heel of this game.

No one is afraid of carrier ops - it takes a substantial amount of time and effort to get them right.

Nice... although the film doesn't show nothing...i wish you would focus on IL2 Sturmowic and add B-25, B-17 and Lancaster as collectors, i would pay $70 for each one of them !/!

The MiG-15bis entered Korea before the Sabre A did. They're definitely comptemporary aircraft with notable advantages for the Sabre like the ranging gunsight, G-suit, roll rate, and top speed, so I don't think the Sabre will struggle, far from it. I imagine later models will be quick to follow once the base set of aircraft is out, too

We picked up an interesting document that was written by a British officer on assignment in Korea, where he compares the F-86 to the MiG-15. It's going to be a very even matchup.

Reading many of the comments here, I just want to make sure…a new combat sim in a new theater with new airplanes is a good thing, right?

I really like these screenshots:

Look at those sun reflections on that fuel tank and T-34 85s

Eh, I don’t know… these screenshots look extremely similar to Great Battles… I’m not biting the whole “new engine” discussion. Let’s see if y’all are able to model at least Incendiary ammo this time, then I’ll believe it’s a new engine

What's under the hood is really important. The team already said they will comment further on on many things as time goes on.

No need to reveal everything on the first day. It's not also on sale yet.

devices and gamepads, mouse-free experience in VR, intelligent sortie recording and playback.

Strange as most of the video is black on my screen. Is it normal. I see just water a few seconds then nothing just black, a reactor and again nothing.

Any clue?

 You blinked.

Damage! I like it if there is, because I don't always know which keyboard command is needed to operate it, so I can see the engine management more easily!

Oh Lordy. Let’s hope we’re not going down some sort of gameplay nonsense here.

The part about being squadron commander and having to deal with personnel and supplies already sounds ominous.

It's not surprising, as long as there was no official announcement, people could project their hopes and dreams on the new project, which is always going to be better than reality. Developers can never make everyone happy or do as much as people hope they do.

We will now just witness a bunch of people going through the 5 stages of grief. Once they get to 'acceptance,' things will get a bit more mellow.

Hey!

Thanks for asking my opinion :)

I liked the video. It was short and to show that it is Korea. The good thing is the page!

At the end there was a radar operator talking in Russian and giving vectors, hopefully it's the new radio system.
I am sure it's not the last trailer we have. So those who are seeking a more "action" video will be pleased too!

I understand we need to wait a little bit until they disclose more information 😁

In the pictures, the vegetation is very similar and the ground aspect, I would have expected better. The houses however seem of better quality. Vehicles seem good too.

It is very difficult to judge with so little images, and we do not have sound as well as all the visual effects etc..

Anyhow CountZero may be right I need to go to my ophtalmologyst.

The problem is that I have tested and proven 10/10 vision excellent far and near, and also excellent peripheral vision. Do not forget I was a pilot.

So I checked again the video and also the one on the website and I insist this is what I get.

1) Water surface for a few seconds

2) Totally black for some other time

3) The glowing jet exhaust for a few seconds

4) Then Pitch black

5) The Korea logo emerges form the black and it is finished.

Can you please tell me what I should see. Thanks.

Hi!

As stated, cloud, vegetation etc is all prototypes just yet.

The team will expand later on with regular DDs. :)

LOL i tought you were joking, like you like prop airplanes and not jets, so you dont see anything important in video, henc my joke that your jet blined, but you explained perfectly full content of video

The new career mode is interesting but I hope that isn't the only mode. Sometimes I will want a simple career as just one of the men with no  responsibilities other than flying and that should be available too. I won't want to get bogged down in running a squadron in every career I have on the go as I am not looking for a Total War version of air combat, I want to go flying in a flight sim not sit at a desk doing admin. Having a choice would be fantastic but no choice will become very irritating and put off.

That said I like what has been said about the overall improvements.

I note some people think there won't be a Skyraider, I hope that's wrong and there is as that would be a definite buy for me as that is one plane that interests me more than all the others.

But you are perfectly right on that count. I am not interested in jets, only props. Nice they show the B29, but will it be flyable? and if yes then they can do the B17 and B25 flyable. The P51 is there but I miss the Corsair.

Now if indeed this is the real video then I am very disappointed. It is not a teaser as you simply have nothing to get your hands on. Jet engines exhaust that's really not enough to create some attraction and by the way we new jets were coming anyway. This one fell really too short.

After  looking at the pictures in more detail, the trees seem to be of better quality, and ground vegetation is also more dense and has more consistence.

I could imagine the map quality maybe better.

I will still wait the for the Odessa map.

Have you tried it though?  I think the only prior sim is Mig Alley.

I didn't think I'd like the Ta-152, but it surprised me.

For people worrying about the Sabre and MiG match up... in combat, until the F version of the Sabre turned up, the MiG's always had the advantage.

MiG's would in general have an altitude advantage over Sabres and would pick their moments to attack... early Sabres could not reach the same altitudes.

The arrival of the F series gave the two more or less parity.

The E version of the Sabre did have improvement's, and I'm hoping that might be a collectors plane that we can purchase.

I think you missed the part at 19 seconds in where the Sabre flashed past before the blackout. I had to go through single frames to see whether it was a Mig or not but I would say not.

Been reading the features on the main page of the website, the TU-2 is explicitly mentioned as an AI unit along side the B-29. The mention of functional radar is interesting too, here's hoping for night fighters down the road.

F3D from VMF(N)-513 USMC

F7F from VMF(N)-513 and VMF(N)-542 USMC

🙂

Those are all marine units. The USN flew nearly 50% of all strike missions in the Korean war. Just ignoring that fact because carriers are 'hard' really is disappointing.

Not incorporating carrier fleets will be a big mistake in the long run

It might just be for ground control, and possibly for the automatic gunsights (F-86E?)

If they did model airborne radar - well, it'd make it even easier to have the weirdness of the P-82. Note: The P-82 was increasingly used for ground attack, and after combat damage occurred to some radar sets they decided to just remove them and convert them to daylight ops. So there were essentially radarless P-82E operating in Korea - which means we could potentially get a twin-mustang without them needing to model radar.

Dude, this is just a first release, who's to say that module II isn't "carrier fleets" with additional USN/FAA aircraft and appropriate ships? If anything that makes good sense, to develop the new engine, setting, aircraft and feature set like radar, then once that is all established then develop carrier tech once the groundwork is in place. Trying to do that all in one go seems like a great avenue to scope creep yourself into oblivion, look at what has happened to KSP 2.

Is it really fair to say it 'will' be a big mistake? If they are thinking of PTO, then the same technology could be developed for Korea at some point. Saying 'will' assumes you know what the developers are doing and what they will do in the future.

I agree. Also, if they try to do everything at once we could get into a situation where we have to wait another couple of years for release! Do we want that? Do we want increased development risk? I'll be pretty happy with what they have now - and content to hope they add some Collector Planes and additional services (USN, FAA, RAAF) later.

It is nice to see the drop tanks and heavy bomber "dilemma" has finally been cracked just wish we were getting both in GB.  The screenshots also look right out of GB, am I missing something? 🤔But this being the first dedicated Korean War air combat game in decades, I'll keep my eyes on development... time will tell!

In the main game mode, the player will no longer be an ordinary pilot, concerned only with individual success in a series of combat missions — now the player will be a commander of an entire unit, and on his shoulders will rest not only the management of personnel, but also the planning of combat missions based on the situation and the management of the unit’s resources — the personnel and aircraft.

So you're giving me an entire squadron of Migs or Sabres when I have trouble knowing which way it's pointing due to the lack of propeller? I like being an ordinary pilot.

I don't get it though LuftManu; I thought the team had been working on this for a couple of years already, and certainly seem eager enough to brag about all of the amazing features they've worked up, but everything we see in the promo is being checked as 'prototype'. This promotion has really only opened up a can of worms larger than the one before; we already knew that it was Korea, that PBR was going to be a thing, that larger AI formations were possible, and even the planeset could have been reasonably deduced. At this point, it simply looks like BoX being resold.

Show, don't tell.

I wish for the Gulf of Venice/Isonzo in WWI... but then, I suppose I'll enjoy seeing how much I like Korea. There hasn't been a sim since Mig Alley - and it had stability issues... so I'm excited to see a new sim with a quatre century of technology development.

There are a few notable differences though. If you look at some of the screenshots on https://www.il2-korea.com/media, for instance this one,

KoreaIL2_scrn_en19_4k.png

If you look at the mountains in the bottom left, it looks as if they have different specularity/roughness for rocks and vegetation. Which is kinda possible in the current IL2 but not in an efficient or scalable way. Also, comparing the trees in various parts of the image, it's clear they've got some sort of (approximated) translucency or subsurface scattering. So that's at least two very important changes.
