Newcomer Question

Do you need to buy any of the Main Titles (BoS/BoK/BoM etc.) to access Multiplayer, or is it enough to buy a set of collector planes, which i can then use in multiplayer servers? (buying off of il2 website)

But it could be any of them (and the modules are a better deal than the Collector Planes - especially the older ones, and especially if bought on sale).

Yup. The old ones have been updated, so the Battle of Stalingrad module is far from the BoS module you'd have gotten back in 2014. The old modules still give good value for money.

 

However, I'd say you should go for whatever planes you like most. All maps are open to everyone in multiplayer but planes aren't, so choose whatever you like to fly and go with it

You'll need to buy a main title so that you get the launcher which downloads the game which puts all the maps, assets and vehicles on your harddrive.

 

Battle of Stalingrad is the cheapest right now, but you may want to get a title that maximizes the use of your chosen Collector Plane.

 

Edit: Scripted campaigns don't count as main titles. They also require you own the associated main title, and sometimes a particular Collector Plane.

What if you already had the game installed with an existing account but made a 2nd account? Would you need a title?

The licenses are aliased to your user account and password. I doubt you'll be able to log in to the previously installed game with your new account.

You can log in to the same install with any account. The licenses are connected to your user (e-mail address) and password. The account you log in with determines what you have access to (so if the account lacks a license, then that content will be disabled). It might be possible to get two accounts merged if you ask support.

you guys are right about that, before i bought anything on the 2nd account, the launcher acted like that account didnt exist and wouldn't let me log in. I was just wondering if buying just a single 5$ collector plane would let me login (lol), but i guess it wouldnt.

Believe me the price you will pay today and there is a summer sale going one, is really extremely good value for money. 

If you like WWWII era flight/battle sim then this is it. I can only advise if you have no specific or personal defined choice, to buy the BOK main title if you are interested on the eastern front (the best map for me with sea and mountains), or BON if you prefer the western front.
