AlfredIl2AlfreS Posted June 22, 2024 Posted June 22, 2024 Hello everyone. I am new to Il-2 Sturmovik, and although I read the manual ("Make a Train Follow a Route" section) I don't really understand how trains are added to a mission. By following these steps, all I achieve is a stationary train emitting steam! Can you please tell me what would be the correct way to do it? Thank you very much in advance!!
JG4_Deciman Posted June 23, 2024 Posted June 23, 2024 Hi there. Seems you did either not place, link correctly or trigger the waypoints needed to make the train move. Check the previous sections of the same manual 'Make a Plane Take Off...' up to 'Make a Train...' That should show you the missing parts. Takeoff, formation etc is not needed for trains, but the waypoints are. Deci
AlfredIl2AlfreS Posted June 23, 2024 Author Posted June 23, 2024 Yeah! Thanks to carefully reading the examples you mentioned, I already acquired "the skill" I was looking for... thanks JG4_Deciman! Very kind of you!
IckyATLAS Posted July 3, 2024 Posted July 3, 2024 There is indeed a lot of things you can achieve with trains with this editor. Once you have mastered that art of making trains of various lengths move along the tracks, start, stop and move at various speeds and also change track, then you also can experiment using the MCU's Activate, Deactivate, Delete, Spawn. A typical example is when you want to go through a tunnel which is normally impossible you can trick and have the train enter a tunnel and disappear and reappear on the other side of the tunnel and then continue. Or another case is to have the train at a station start in an opposite direction, I mean to reverse the whole train with the locomotive and cars by 180 degrees. And many amazing little tricks.
Zooropa_Fly Posted July 3, 2024 Posted July 3, 2024 Just a shame you can't make them disappear when you want them to

You can make disappear a full train as long as it is connected even with damaged carriages. If it is attacked and some carriages get separated due to damages then those carriages are not addressable any more. So if they stay even destroyed, on the rail track, then the next coming train will impact the debris and get destroyed, and there is no way to clean the track of the damaged train parts.

Exactly ! They do disappear eventually, I think 7-8 minutes after disconnection from the engine.. or after the engine is destroyed. Can't remember exactly off-hand. S!
