Snowdon Posted June 19, 2024 Posted June 19, 2024 I know where I saw the first posts about it and when, I'm interested when we hangers on first heard of it 1
BENKOE Posted June 19, 2024 Posted June 19, 2024 (edited) Pretty brave. As far as I remember ... personal insults, excessive rudeness, vulgarity, ... are not allowed and will result in a ban. Edited June 19, 2024 by BENKOE

Dagwoodyt Posted June 19, 2024 Posted June 19, 2024 I've been using VR in Great Battles since Xmas 2017 and am on my 5th HMD. Super stable GB implementation throughout that time. Even Falcon BMS has VR. I'm guessing that the closer one is to the Team the more patience others are expected to exhibit. Hopefully, TF is planning a huge VU/VR/TF 6.0 update to celebrate the 4 year anniversary of the Blitz 5.0/DWT launch. Then again, perhaps there is some kind of secondary gain from a "tumbleweeds" forum activity state. 🤔
Missionbug Posted June 19, 2024 Posted June 19, 2024 (edited) I don't use VR and it seems to have been holding everything else up for years, it is a niche thing most of us do not bother with, how many years who knows, I lost count too many years ago to care anymore. Please just release an update and forget VR, consentrate on the visual stuff, it was never intended for this sim to start with, why hold everything else up for the few of us still waiting patiently. Take care and be safe. Wishing you all the very best, Pete. Edited June 19, 2024 by Missionbug 1 1

Dagwoodyt Posted June 20, 2024 Posted June 20, 2024 Come to think of it how long has TF been trying to implement trueSKY? Has "mission accomplished" been declared yet?
AtomicP Posted June 20, 2024 Posted June 20, 2024 I have to agree that VR is still very niche (due to upfront costs in hardware plus the fact that there isn't a true plug and play solution) and the work it requires to retroengineer into old game engines seems out of proportion with the number of people that will use it. Frankly, CoD doesn't have many users as it is but might if the release cadence was more rapid. More aircraft, new maps, new game modes etc. is what generally draws people in. Then, for a project like this, more folk will want to lend a hand, then you can think about adding in the nice-to-haves such as VR. 1

So "very niche" that TF is effectively alone in being unable to offer VR to the public. Then again, Microprose B-17 doesn't offer VR either so there is that.🤨

I think there were rumours about Truesky but it was first confirmed November 17th 2019 Original announcement here: https://theairtacticalassaultgroup.com/forum/showthread.php?t=31663 1
Team Fusion Buzzsaw Posted June 20, 2024 Team Fusion Posted June 20, 2024 We have had the various visual upgrades, including VR in development for approx. 4 years. These elements were set as 'Goals'. As it stands, VR is well implemented in the game... the feedback from the VR Beta users is the CLIFFS VR experience is excellent, as good or better than GREAT BATTLES or DCS. Unfortunately while the player's VR experience in CLIFFS might last for 20 minutes to a half hour, crashes usually occur after that. We are working very actively on the source of these crashes... which are probably related to errors in the functioning of the Simul trueSKY program... this program has been implemented into our game at the same time as we added VR. Simul has not given us access to their source code, we rely on their Support Team to fix the bugs which we point to. And unfortunately their level of support for their trueSKY version for Windows based games is quite limited... responses and re-writes of identified bugs in their code are slow to progress... Not surprisingly, Simul appears to be more focused on their Unity/Unreal based game customers as these represent a much bigger bigger slice of their revenues. Even with this handicap, TF has managed to identify and eliminate multiple sources of instability. We are now negotiating with Simul on direct access to their Source Code so we don't have to rely on their Support Team to re-write the trueSKY code... with the goal of faster progress. This thread is now closed. Any further threads on this subject will be deleted. I will certainly update the community on the progress of our VR implementation in the future. We have every confidence we will identify the sources of the instability causing crashes, and VR will be successfully implemented in the game. Any VR user who wants to test the game is welcome to apply to join the VR Beta. 4 4 1 1 2
